MF 5.0 final burn to DVD is confusing with error messages

Post by lathompson »

I have Ulead MovieFactory version 5.0 on a PC using Windows XP Home, over 2 gigs RAM and 190 GIGs of free HD. When go through the process of making a DVD from my movies, I get to the last step to "create to disc" and there are several lines of text on the menu screen that are printed in RED. These are apparently warning messages.

First, for "disc type:" it says "empty". This is not true. The drive is properly designated in the drive window and it works fine with other programs without warnings. So it's not "empty".

Second, where it lists the required space, all is ok. The "required/available hard disk space: 6.70 GB / 182.76 GB is easily within range, but the next line, "required/available disc space.... 3.37 GB / 0 Bytes" is printed in red....... Even though a fresh, good disc is inserted into the burner. I've tried changing blank discs (DVD-R), but I always get this message in red.

Now with that condition existing, I can actually go ahead and execute the burn command and now I get a pop up message that tell me the disc may not have enough room. I click through this message and the process continues and makes a perfect finished disc without further incident or messages.

Why is this error message occuring when it isn't warranted?

You may have a conflict with another burning program. For example, "Drag & Drop" programs such as Nero InCD can sometimes take-over your burner.

If you do have another burning application on your drive, you may be able to use that other software to burn your Movie Factory project.

- Uncheck the box that says Create To Disc, and check the box that says Create DVD Folders or Create Disc Image. This will "burn" the DVD to your hard drive, rather than to an actual DVD.

- Then, use your other burning software to burn the image/folders to an actual DVD.

- Don't use the Image option unless your burning software can burn from an ISO image.

- If you Create DVD Folders, set-up your burning software to burn a video-DVD. (If you simply drag & drop the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders or burn them as "data", they will end-up in the wrong physical sequence on the DVD.)
