PIX3 Keeps reinstalling
If you have PIX3 installed it you cannot do a disc cleanup as this will remove the Ulead folder in your temp folder, the only option is to uncheck the temp folder for cleaning and do it manually (without removing the Ulead Folder).
This is the only program I know that leaves a part of the install in the users temp folder, did no one carry out a test before writing the installer package?

No, I don't believe that's the problem. I've always deleted everything in my Temp folder and done it again. PI installer did not launch.
I think the culprit is the CorelIOMonitor.exe file. If you will disable it, you should not have this problem anymore. To disable it: Start||Run|| type in msconfig. In the Startup tab, uncheck that file. You will need to reboot.
I've done this on both my XP and Vista machines. I no longer have this problem..

May be relevant - I upgraded my computers motherboard a couple of weeks ago from an AMD 2400 XP+ to an AMD 64 bit 3200+.
The old motherboard had a monitoring program for things like the CPU fan speed and temperature and a few other things. Obviously useless with my new motherboard so I uninstalled it. This was a couple of weeks ago.
A couple of nights ago I came to use one of my computer programs named CT Scheduler - it is used to set my Hauppauge TV card to record a TV program in advance - like a VHS recorder. Suddenly I was getting a message popping up stating "Installing Quicktracks" (The auto music you get with VideoStudio) - absolutely nothing to do with CT Scheduler or the Hauppauge TV card. I even rebooted the computer, uninstalled and re-installed CT Scheduler and checked the Windows Registry. Nothing would stop this dialog box popping up and then asking for the path to the setup program.
(Does this sound similar to the problem in this thread - a program keeps wanting to install for no reason?)
After some detective work I discovered that when I removed the Motherboard monitoring program it removed a shared "DLL" file from the
Windows\System32 directory. As soon as I discovered that and installed a copy of the missing DLL file everything was back to normal and CT Scheduler would now run without trying to install Quicktracks.
So.... have you installed or removed anything from your computer lately?

It was a file in the Windows System 32 directory, I found a copy on one of my other networked computers and copied it across.
Sorry but cannot recall the filename and I did a hunt to try and find out which file it was. I doubt the exact same file would cause your problem but the possibility is that you have a similar problem.
If it is a missing DLL then it matters not that you are using Vista or XP.
At the time I was concentrating on solving the problem in hand and never gave this thread a thought but when I logged on tonight and checked the list of updated posts and saw this one it suddenly dawned on me you could be experiencing a similar problem.
I stumbled over the missing file issue when I tried various ways of activating CT Scheduler and was suddenly given a message that I had a missing or unregistered DLL file. Sure enough it was missing when I checked. It was a mixture of luck and perseverance.

Okay, so now try and run Photoimpact X3 on vista after you install SP1 for Vista. So on Vista it runs just fine. after SP1 is installed, nothing, absolutely nothing
, same with version 12. Something in SP1 stops it from loading.
So I go back with acronis to pre SP1 and both X3 and 12 run just fine. Soooooooo, I go and install SP1 for vista again and guess what......yep, nothing.
Oh its so much fun.

I had a problem with Vista SP1 on my wifes laptop - no problems with my desktop and my own laptop. Her machine kept freezing up or crawling along like a snail - she has nothing special installed - she mainly uses it for online Bingo. Did as you did and reverted back to pre-SP1.
What I then did with her laptop was to download the full SP1 using the Administrator options where a system administrator might have to upgrade several computers - rather than the normal Windows Update. This time it worked and my wifes laptop works correctly.

Oops, just realised its the same version
Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe (installed this one)
Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe (recommended)
450 odd megabytes
I actually downloaded that installed it Steve. Never mind, My Vista is running fine without it
, so I'll just wait and someone will catch up with a patch, I'm sure.
Thanks Steve.

Well so much for the CorelIOMonitor theory..
While installing the WinDVD Creator 3 TBYB, the PI installer launched on me. Pressing the cancel would not cancel it either. I just had to let it do whatever it was doing. Afterwards I checked in Task Manager to see if CorelIOMonitor was running, and it wasn't...

Hi, Guys
I was getting really sick of the PIX3 installer starting nearly every day when booting or when it didn't and you would start an application it would try to reinstall then.
After trying the suggestions and hints of disabling the Corel monitors and so forth, it still persisted.
Last week I navigated to my all users data application temp folder and created a folder named Ulead and restarted the Corel services and so far the re install problem has not reared its ugly head.
The OS is Xp Pro and have tried this on the computer that is run 12 hours a day so far 10 days touch wood.
Trying to monitor the processors to isolate the cause was fruitless and feel it might something in PIX3 .ini file? that is the cause to this annoyance.
Not having a machine with Vista (a mental picture covering a wide range of objects or a long succession of events in the past or future) maybe should have called it Colossal then users could add words like joke, failure or if you are an avid Vista fan then your own.
Xp finally produced a good workable OS after Sp2 ok all be it was easy to break which Vista is bit harder and is good start for the beginners (just a shame about hardware, drivers, the software issues, the need to add extra onboard ram solely to help in booting the program faster, the size of the program some 15gig compared to an updated and patched xp at 4 to 5 gig. If only IBM did not win the DOS license war imagine what "Longhorn" might have been?
Sorry digressed a bit, where was I yeah Vista to try the same thing.

Please do not use BOLD for your entire message. It is useful for highlighting important points but is very irritating if the entire message is in bold.

Hi, Guys
Yesterday had a conversation With Corel in Australia, re PI X3 re install issue and whilst on hold he sort an answer for the problem within Corel support and came back with a suggestion to switch the start menu to classic.
He must of continued to seek more information as I had said there were quite a lot of hits on the Corel User Forum re this problem and it appeared to affect both Xp & Vista, later on in the day, received an email from him with this reply.
If still occurs, try to disable the MRU (Most recently used lists), please do the following:
Click Start, then Run, and type "regedit". After clicking OK,
Look for the entry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Comdlg32". If this entry is not found, meaning that it does not yet exist, create it by clicking to the Policies key. Then go to the Edit menu, select New (then select Key), type in "comdlg32" and press Enter.
Once the "Comdlg32" key is created, go to the Edit menu and select New again. This time, select DWORD Value. In the entry box that pops up, type in "nofilemru" and
click OK or press Enter. Finally, go to the Edit menu again, select Modify, type in 1, and press Enter. Then the registry editing is finished, and no more new MRU entries are going to be created.
Important as it has been said before, on numerous occasions.
Back up your registry first, this should only be attempted if you are confident and know what you are doing.

Have you tried it out? Or has anybody else? With what result?
My PIX3 (under Windows XP Pro) keeps reinstalling (well, at least it says it does, and only for a minute or so) when I start up some other program (unpredictable which). It's not a big problem, but still I would like to get rid of it...

Hi Guys
Well it has been a number of weeks since tried this on one of my computers and to date the reinstall issue has not reared its ugly head on boot or opening applications.
This may be a quick fix time will tell.
During the las few weeks also sent an email through the Corel Tech support for this problem and received this long winded reply.
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
Kindly refer on the following suggestions.
-manually remove Photo Impact X3 from the system to avoid corrupted files
Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders"; Please purge/delete all the files in these folders: "C:\Windows\Temp" "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP); Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems"; Delete the folder for "PhotoImpact 13"; Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the "13.0" folder; Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the "13.0" folder; Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"; Delete the folder "{C8550C86-A712-4219-AD4C-038C9FD1D149}" (skip if you can't find); Go to Start-->Run; Type "regedit"; Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the folder "13.0"; Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact"; Delete the folder "13.0"; Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall; Locate the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead PhotoImpact 13 {C8550C86-A712-4219-AD4C-038C9FD1D149} (skip if you can't find); Delete the said entry; Close "Regedit"; Restart Windows; Before you reinstall PhotoImpact, please disable any antivirus or real time scanning software (Firewall, spam detectors or anti spy wares especially Norton. Sometimes they mistake PhotoImpact program files for something harmful and blocks some important files, which is of course not true.); Reinstall PhotoImpact. Be sure to logon as Administrator before installing your software to avoid restrictions.
Note: Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.
-after applying service pack 3, reinstall the program
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions.
Re WindowsXP Service Pack
Xp Sp3 release candidate 1 & Beta has a vulnerability on reboot BSoD. Safe boot or last known good config will not work.
Microsoft spent weeks trying to resolve the problem.
It is a conflict with a sys 32 GDi.dll that does not copy from the i386 service pack folder. XP sp release candidate 2 refresh build 5508 suppose to have fixed.
If you are unfortunate to get the issue do not panic can be recovered by the repair option from a widows disc or recovery console (not an OEM windows disc) and able to copy that file to the sys 32 folder after baking up the original.
