PIX3 Keeps reinstalling
PIX3 Keeps reinstalling
I am using Vita Ultimate 32 bit, and on occasions when I boot the computer it starts installing PIX3 while it is doing this there is a folder in my temp folder which includes a msi file for PI after 10 mins it finishes then tells me that it cannot find the msi file, I then launch PI and all is okay, I then looked in the temp folder and the folder that was there before has gone!
This does not happen all of the time about 3 times a week, what is going on, no other programe on my computer behaves like this.
I have uninstaled 3 times but it still keeps happening.

How are you launching the program, Start menu or Shortcut Icon on the Desktop? It seems that whatever you're using has the path set to the installer.
Try removing the installer from your system. Either burn it do disk, move it to another HDD, or just delete it (if you have already backed it up). Then see if it still creates problems.

As mentioned in my post I am not launching the program an installer process starts when I start the computer I have no control over it, I have just restarted my computer (cold boot) and the installer did not kick in, this could be okay for a few days (or even 1 day).
The main error is that when I switch on my computer a requester box will say it is installing Photoimpact X3 (which is already installed) the shortcut I use has the path:
"C:\Program Files\Corel\PhotoImpact X3\Iedit.exe" so no problems there as I have just pressed the shortcut and program loaded fine.

Gee you are running one hell of a lot of stuff at start up and this must be slowing your computer down. What I tend to do is rename the registry "Run" keys with an x at the end for example:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
becomes
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunX
I then create a new "Run" key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This is of course empty.
I then restart my computer and if I find that I have a need for one of the items that was in the original start up entry I simply recreate it using copy/paste techniques.
You can also find out what an entry in the registry run sections is by searching Google.
WARNING:
Messing with the registry can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing and how to reverse changes you may have made. Make sure before changing anything in the registry that you know what it is you are doing and if in doubt ask.
I could not see anything obvious that might be causing your error. My next suggestion is to go through the suggestions in this thread:

Re: PIX3 Keeps reinstalling
I am experiencing the same problem. The install seems to work fine from an Administrator Account. Then I switch to a user account and get the reinstall windows at start-up. This isn't random as bristow described, it only happens when you switch user accounts. For example:bristow wrote:I am using Vita Ultimate 32 bit, and on occasions when I boot the computer it starts installing PIX3 while it is doing this there is a folder in my temp folder which includes a msi file for PI after 10 mins it finishes then tells me that it cannot find the msi file, I then launch PI and all is okay, I then looked in the temp folder and the folder that was there before has gone!

I have uninstaled 3 times but it still keeps happening.
Log on as User X: X3 reinstalls at startup
Log on again as User X: No reinstall
Log on as User Y: X3 reinstalls at startup
Log on again as User X: X3 reinstalls at startup.
I have contacted Tech Support and Emily says that this is a Vista issue, but she is sending me instructions to "viciously" uninstall X3 so that I can start from a "clean" machine. She also suggested that I run the installer package with XP compatablility. That seems strange since X3 is supposed to be Vista ready. She indicated that there must be some permissions issues with Vista, but I haven't had any problems with anything else that I have installed.
If anybody has any ideas, please let me know. I use PhotoImpact a lot and really don't want to wait on the reinstall every time I log onto my computer.
Thanks,
Benny

This is a really strange behavior, and I've had this happen as well. So far I've not been able to run down what is prompting this constant re-install, or install.
This is not specific to Vista, as I've had it occur on my XP machine as well. Yesterday I started over from scratch on my XP machine, re-formatting and re-installing. So far I've not created another account to see if this persists.

Still no luck
I have checked all the registry keys listed above and the Start Menu Entry and have had no luck. I have looked everywhere that I could possibly think of that could harbor an entry to run at start-up and can find nothing. I did have an entry in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\Run list that was a Corel File Monitor. I removed it, but the issue still persists. I received the "vicious" uninstall instructions from Ulead, but they are for PI12. I am going to try them anyway and then reinstall with XP compatability. Keep your fingers crossed. I have a project that I am in the middle of that is sort of pressed for time, so It will probably be this weekend before I can give this course of action a try. If you have any more ideas, let me know. At this point I'll try anything because I'm really tired of the uninstall/reinstall cycle.sjj1805 wrote:Please check the following locations:

Well it looks like it did not work as today when I booted up it wanted to reinstall Photoimpact yet again, I have "had the drains up on my system" and I cannot find what is causing this apart from a bad Vista installer produced by Ulead/Corel.
If anybody finds a fix I would be glad to hear about it!

I just remembered I had a similar problem some time ago on an XP machine, every time I started windows it would re-install a program, forget now which program it was, but that is unimportant. I put up with it for months until one day I discovered the cause.
In my particular case it was the Windows Registry. A registry setting was "read only" - and once I altered that to read/write I no longer had the problem. That problem was in fact something I inadvertantly created my self as part of my Creating a Video Editing Profile. where I purposely set the registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and also
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
to read only to prevent unauthorised changes to my computer - either by virus attacks off the internet, or the really big viruses that sit at the keyboard!!
Once the correct registry value had been written I was able to turn the keys back onto read only mode.

X3 is also reinstalling on my XP machine, suggestions?
I'm noticing the X3 installer is loading when I go to run various applications.
For example, tonight the X3 began to configure and install itself, again, when I started my CuteFTP Pro program. Yesterday, it was another program (forgot now) and the day before another.
I don't see anything different or suspicious in my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run folder with my /runonce being empty.
This is becoming irritating. X3 did install fine. It was an upgrade/download from Ulead/Corel. It works fine, stable.
But this constant re-installing and configuring of X3 when I start other programs is too much.
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
Sincerely,
Mark
