HDV not capturing but DV works fine

Hi,
I'm running a trial version or VS11 to asses its performance with HDV. I've bought numerous video editing software packages and all of them seem to struggle with HDV.

Does the trial version support HDV as I cannot get it to capture from my Sony HDR HC3 camcorder. In HD it works fine but HDV nothing, just a blue screen during capture and error message which says failed to capture, files corrupted and deleted.

Any ideas or do I need to go and buy a new imac with imovie8!!!
