VideoSudio 11+ vs DVD MovieFactory

Post by GeorgeC »

I have continually upgraded VS however I have have not upgraded DVD MF past version 4. Is there any compelling reason to own current versions of both? I mainly work in creating combined video and slideshow projects for friends, family and local business.

Thanks George

George

Others will doubtless disagree, but I would say there is no need to go up to MF6 if you already have VS11/11.5+. The burning engines are much the same. MF6 can do a range of things associated with the disc production side of things that VS can't, but in many ways, the disc authoring aspects of VS have caught up with those of MF. Our resident High Def guru reckons that MF6 with an optional power pack does a better job processing some types of high def video, but unless you are into high def, this is not real reason to upgrade in its own right.

If you do a lot of slideshows, you will already know that MF does these better, and easier, than VS -- though VS has improved considerably there too. In any case, MF4 will still be able to do them well -- it's just that you may not have any of the smarter menu templates in that earlier version. But again, if you can live with that, no need to upgrade...!

There are a few things that can be done with MovieFactory that cannot be done with VideoStudio but most are hard to find such as
Image

To compare them you would need to download the 30 day free trial of MovieFactory. You can also check the comparison lists for MovieFactory against the comparison lists for VideoStudio

If you are only making DVD Videos then it might not be considered worthwhile getting both.

I would have to agree with Ken and stay with VS11+.
Main features that MovieFactory6 Plus version has over VS11+ is cd/dvd data burning, MP3 audio file & audio extraction to various audio formats, creating dvd audio disc's or dvd-video audio only disks.
It's also very simple to make slideshows in MF6+.
