DVD MovieFactory 5.6 and Canon HG10
DVD MovieFactory 5.6 and Canon HG10
I tried to burn a DVD. I can see clips I took (total 43). Right after I click any clip on the list I got the "Ulead DVD MoviewFactory" error message:
Error signature: dvdmf.exe AppVer: 5.0.0.0 ModName:h264vdechpdll.dll
ModVer: 1.1.1.71 Offset: 00051130
Reporting Details: This error report includes: information regarding the condition of Ulead DVD MovieFactory when the problem occured; the operating system version and computer hardware in use; your Digital product ID which could be used to identify your license; and the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer, ...............
After I clicked "OK" and will go back to the original screen. Nothing can get done. Please help! Thanks!

The patch does not help at all.
Do you mean when you are importing from the HG10? You see a list of the clips, then select one & the program crashes, correct?
In other words you can't even get past importing them? OR are they already on the timeline.
Sounds like your still in the importing from the camcorder module where the program is crashing.
Vista or XP? Installed November 2007 Directx 9.0C updates, Yes/No ?

Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated Nov. '07, for WinXP. For Vista you should already have DirectX 10, however this should also update that version if it is not current.
Note the version number 9.0c, will not change even after updating.

If that doesn't work then maybe you can copy them from the cams harddisk to your computers harddisk and insert them directly into the timeline of MF, instead of importing the videos using the import feature.
I think the problem with doing the above may have a 2 gig limitation, not sure how the videos are split up on the HG10's harddisk..

Are you by chancing using an Athlon XP or older processor? I was having this same problem. Worked fine on two PCs for me, but my two Athlon XPs I get the same error you are receiving. There was some speculation that the AVCHD decoder requires SSE2 instruction set, which the XP processors do not support. trevorjharris also suggested that the Haali Media Splitter was causing some problems with imports, although he was having problems with the app hanging, not with the fault in the 264 decoder.spanct wrote:I tried to burn a DVD. Dobs,
To my surprise running Vista on an Intel Q6600 I got the same H264 error, importing any type of video, not just avchd. It also was happening when trying to import from a DVD-VR folder on the harddisk.
I do not get this error running XP so compared the XP install against the Vista install.
Under Vista in the MF6 executable directory if you have the file "H264VDecHPDll.dll" rename it to H264VDecHPDll.dll_BACKUP.
With that file active it must conflict with the H264VDecHPDll.dll that resides in the common files folder (which is in the windows path statement).
Watch that MF6 doesn't try to repair this and put the file back again.
That fixed my importing problem with Vista, I think I posted this before and you tried it with no success. Maybe it will work for someone else.

Yeah, I had already tried that on my Athlons, and that didn't help. Just to document what I've experienced so far:etech6355 wrote: I think I posted this before and you tried it with no success. Maybe it will work for someone else.
Athlon XP 3000+ running windows XP: I get the error
Athlon 1.0 ghz running windows XP: I get the error
Pentium M processor 1.70GHz running XP: Works fine (though very slow as expected)
Intel Q6600 Quad Core running Vista: Works fine
In the case of the XP 3000+ machine, I had a bunch of video software installed, so I originally suspected I had a software conflict. I had gotten to the point where I uninstalled every single Ulead/Intervideo/Corel piece of software I had (verified that this dll no longer existed) as well as every codec I had previously installed. I then installed just MF6+ and still got the error. With the Athlon 1.0 ghz, that was a pretty clean machine to begin with. No video software or special codecs installed, but still got the error. That seemed to indicate to me that maybe it wasn't a software conflict. Upon talking to numerous people on this forum and a couple others, I realized that everyone that had this problem was running older Athlons. That was when someone suggested the SSE2 instruction set. Again, I have no direct evidence that is the actual problem, but it seems the most likely scenario so far.
Although this is probably not what someone who just spent $1,000 on a camcorder wants to hear, but my suggestion would be to use this as an excuse to upgrade/replace your PC. My view is, even if you could get it to work on an Athlon XP 3000+, it would probably be so slow as to be virtually unusable anyway.
So far my personal experience working with avc/h264 video on P4 computers is not great. I have a Q6600 quad computer and use that to edit & work with the avc/h264 videos. Without a fast processor you can't get anything done, it's sit & wait. Reminds me of the 90's when P3's were first encoding mpeg2 video.
I think you have found one of the problems, after all the program works on your intel's and not the older amd's.
I've also changed many of my encodes from 18MBS variable bit rate to 15MBS Constant (or 16MBS constant bitrate).
I think the avchd videos from these cams may be recorded in the CBR mode. Any programs I've used report their properties as VBR. The resultant recoded avchd file may have less quality, I've found using 15MBS CBR @ 100% compression to recode very good quality.
I recommend having at least a Core2-Duo to work with avc/h264 video.
Not sure about the new AMD quad's, I usually use Intel processors.

Question for you. Did you have any problems getting GuideMenu from the Corel Application disk installed? That is the application that is supposed to import videos from your camcorder to your PC. Funny thing was, on both of my Athlons, GuideMenu wouldn't install. I ran the installer for the Application disk and it installed MF just fine, but it didn't install GuideMenu. I always found that rather odd. Again, I ran into a few other people that had this problem and it seemed that most people that had problems with MF crashing, also had problems getting GuideMenu to install as well. I had no problems with it installing on the two Intels.spanct wrote:My computer processor: AMD Athlon XP3000+
I have my Vista desktop setup to manually install updates.
Today I checked and if you access the description of the Vista update (a web link) this Vista update affects compatibility problems with programs.
In the list of programs Ulead MovieFactory 5 was listed (towards the bottom).
I don't know if that's the MF5.6 or MF5+ retail, maybe check it out.
