New to VideoStudio but it is MUCH better than Pinnacle Studio 11+.
I get frequent and long "not responding" with VideoStudio (11.5.0157.2). I uninstalled VideoStudio and Quicktime, reinstalled, patched VideoStudio and updated Quicktime to 7.4. No help.
The freezing occurs randomly and the program rarely crashes, just hangs for seconds to minutes. Often the screen is white with a few text remnants showing, or the screen looks like the text is repeated under the existing text. I have stopped all other programs includding McAfee virus and firewall. I have set to optimum performance and reset the page file as Ulead recommended. I now moniter my 4 cores but I never see them going to 100%. My Vista score is 5.0 and I have no problems with other programs. Only other issue is GIFs do not animate in VideoStudio.
I have 1 other Vista issue in case it is related. MOV files do not play in Quicktime if my ReadyBoost SanDisk MicroCruser drive is plugged in. They play fine as soon as I unplug the drive. This is a known Vista bug.
I am still working with technical support. They said update Quicktime but I already had the most recent version that I reinstalled anyway.
Hope someone can help. Thanl you.

solution
It's too bad no one could suggest a fix. Anyway, VS 11+ stops responding with Vista if there is a single MOV or GIF file, especially those downloaded from Animation Factory. If I use batch convert and change them to AVI, the program works almost perfectly, but there are a few "not responding" episodes lasting seconds not minutes. Ulead technical sent me to Corel who said this is probably a bug in VS and there is no solution,

Welcome to the forums. I am sorry no one has been able to help you so far. I don't think anyone could assist the first time since you really hadn't told us the format and properties of the files which seemed to be creating the problem. Now we learn they are QuickTime .mov files and Gifs -- I assume they are animated Gifs...
Now can you right click on one of the .mov files in the Video Studio timeline or library window and copy down ALL its properties here please. Then do the same with one of the Gif files...
Although this sounds silly, the usual problem in Video Studio with .mov files is when you are using a version of QuickTime newer than the version which is included in the Video Studio installation. Usually reinstalling that version corrects the problem. In my personal opinion, this has been a longstanding problem with Video Studio -- of course people will want to install a newer version of QuickTime. The same thing happens with Flash Player where the situation is worse for users because VS won't read Flash files if you don't use the version which came with VS. But there are many new websites which require a new version of the Flash player...
Anyway, you could try reinstalling the original version of QT and see if it helps with those files. But I am afraid I don't know what to suggest with the GIFs since I don't use them in video editing myself. Hopefully someone with more experience with them might be able to suggest something.
But don't forget to come back with the file properties...

To add to what Ken has stated,
If you are trying to use an animated GIF, you need to use the Insert Video file command. Otherwise it will treat it as a still image. Also you need to make sure that the GIF file has enough frames, to match the frame rate of your project/video. So for 1 sec of video if you're using PAL, your GIF file needs at least 25 frames for every second.
