VS 11 and Import DVD problems

Post by patkengroup »

I am using VS 11, trying to import from a DVD. When i use the 'Import DVD' function, VS will read the disk and display the chapter. It will even play each chapter in the preview pane. However, when i try to import, i get the same error every time: 'cannot open files: Report ID: 0x80040836(2102)'

I know it is not the DVD disk, becuase i am still running VS 10 on an XP machine, and i can import without a problem. I would use VS 10 for this project, except it has a tendency to 'crash' a lot. That's why i upgraded!

Can you help? Nothing i do seems to work, and i can't fine any post that has this same issue.
thanks, Patkengroup

Welcome to the forum. Since you can successfully import in VS10, I guess that rules out not putting a tick in the little box beside the selected clips as being the cause of the problem...

Have you tried copying the DVD to hard disk and importing from there, or even changing the extension on the .vob files to .mpg?

Does it only occur with this one DVD or with a variety? Can we assume the DVD is not copy-protected?

I've copied it to the hard drive, and then used "Import DVD Folder', with the same results as before. It will open the chapter menu, and i can review them one by one with the preview tool. However, i get the same error when i try to import it.

I have used 4-5 different DVD's, all with the same result. None of them are copy protected. I have tried the same 4-5 in VS 10 - all succesfull.

VS 10 will allow me to open a project, use the imported videos, and even due some 'clipping'. However, upon editing the 2-3 one. the whole system crashes. I have not had any crashing in 11.

Changing the .vob to an .mpg seems to have worked! It doesn't give me the neat chapter arrangements, but it will do for now.

Do you have any idea what is causing the probelm, and how i might get it fixed so it works the way it was designed to?
