Problems with menus and more menus

Post by happyhero »

Hi I have put this post here under the VideoStudio heading as I could not see a better heading for this. I am working mainly with VideoStudio 11+ and I am doing as was described to me on here, i.e. I burn to harddrive first creating the Video_TS folder on my harddrive, and then using Nero to burn to disk.

I am not sure how much advice you can give me on here as my questions goes a little into the workings of Nero, but I will ask anyway and hope.

I have been editing my home movies and using one of the menus offered each time by VideoStudio but I am surprised how few there are to use. I am not that desperate to have loads of complicated menus but a few more than the 3 offered would be good. I know you can alter the 3 about a bit, but still they are a little limited I would say unless I am missing their potential. I get the 3 up by clicking creat disk and then selecting my video and then when I get to the menu screen I select ALL. I say this so that you can correct me if I am missing some somewhere. I cant believe such a big program has so few menu options.

I probably should have asked on here first if you could tell me where I could get more menues but feeling adventurous I decided to try something else, so what I did was, I thought well if I burn to disk using Nero why not use one of their menus too, thus giving me more choices.

So in VideoStudio I selected not to have a menu when burning my DV-AVI. Then in Nero I made sure it was on DVD and selected Make Your Own DVD-Video. Then I selected Add Video Files and added my DV-AVI and clicked next, this brings up the Nero menus, where upon I selected one and customised it for me, eg titles and layout etc. Then I previewed it and it worked fine, so I clicked next and selected Write to a Hard Disk Folder which created my Video_TS folder. I then cheked this folder by playing my Video_TS folder files. Happy with this I then burnt the folder together with the usual Audio_TS folder to disk using Nero as usual and advised.

Everything looked fine but I now have no menu on the DVD. What has happened to my menu? The video just starts playing when I put it in my DVD machine under my TV, which I do not want it to do. I searched the DVD using my PC playing it in Windows media player and there is no menu.

I then checked the Video_TS folder on my harddrive and the menu is there, very odd!

I then compared the files in the two Video_TS folders and see slight differences, whic just confuses me totally.

On harddrive they are as follows:-

VIDEO_TS 12KB
VIDEO_TS 12KB
VIDEO_TS 5,680KB
VTS_01_0 46KB
VTS_01_0 46KB
VTS_01_1 1,048,574KB
VTS_01_2 1,048,574KB
VTS_01_3 280,820KB

but on the DVD they are as follows:-

VIDEO_TS 32KB
VIDEO_TS 32KB
VIDEO_TS 5,680KB
VTS_01_0 64KB
VTS_01_0 64KB
VTS_01_1 1,000,094KB
VTS_01_2 1,000,300KB
VTS_01_3 377,590KB

So my questions are

why have the sizes of the files changed?

where has my menu gone and why did it dissapear when transferred to DVD?

where can I find more menus for VideoStudio?

and can anyone comment on the above and advise me?

Also a little side question not strictly related to the above, (hope thats ok)when I am watching my video on the TV and it finishes, it immediately goes back to the beginning and starts playing again. I would like it to just end and stop, is there a way I can make it do this?

Any help appreciated as I am a little baffled.

I can't help with the Nero related questions. However, regarding templates in VS11/11+, in my version I have just counted 68 menu templates (divided amongst 16:9. 4:3 and into thumbnail/text/Smart Menu sub-categores).

When you installed VS, the templates are mostly either on CD2 if you have the full boxed version, or in the second (Extra_Content) file in the download/upgrade version. Various users have designed their own menu templates using PhotoImpact and have made these extra templates available. And you will find that the Smart Menus in particular can be customised in a huge variety of ways.

As for your final question, I am not clear whether you are talking about a DVD made with VS or with Nero. If with VS, then in the burning module, on the first page, when you insert the files you want to burn, click on the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. At the very bottom of the box which appears, you will see that 'Auto Repeat when disc playback ends' is ticked by default. If you untick it, you will then be able to choose Return to Menu...
