HG10 and problems with Moviefactory 5.6
I have downloaded clips (i believe m2ts) from my canon hg10 to the computer. when i play them in intervideo windvd se, they play beautifully and with no audio or video flicker. however, when i import the files onto MF 5.6, even before editing them, they have audio and video flicker. i know ambikas on here has the same problem. moreover, my pc has more than enough ram, hd space. the problem lies in 5.6 Mf somehere. I have recorded, edited at 4.8g and best quality to no avail.
thanks

Take your camcorder and record in the lowest resolution, use those clips and see if MF works better. If it does then your processor is to slow.
The videos are still high definition but recorded at a lower bit rate. Give that a try.
There are updates to the MF5.6 program on the ulead website. You access the updates from the Canon support websites link.

I don't understand your last post, have you recorded at a lower resolution which is actually a lower bit rate and tried the videos?

I am not sure if you have the same problem that I had with my MF 5.6.
My problem was, after downloading the clips from Canon HG10 to my PC, and writing DVD with MovieFactory 5.6 , it was having a pause between the clips. I did a join and tried to burn the DVD and tried to fit all the clips into one DVD. Of course, it did descrsed the quality to GQ from HQ and then the video was not good and disturbing.
Now, after I did join together and burn the DVD with HQ (the highest quality), the problem is solved and the video is also good.
So, DONT DECREASE the quality of the videos. Also, try to burn at a lower speed i.e, less than 10x , may be it will help.

Under MF Preferences (F6 HotKey) make sure to select "BEST" as the sampling quality, the default is "GOOD"
Project Settings under the "GEAR" Icon: GEAR -> Change Mpeg Settings -> Customize
Suggestions for High Quality DVD's made from AVCHD Source Videos:
Framesize = 720x480 (NTSC) / 720x576 (PAL)
FrameRate = 29.97 (NTSC) / 25 (PAL)
Fielding = Upper Field First
Aspect Ratio = 16:9
Compression/Quality = 100%
Video Bit Rate = Variable 9000kbs - 9500kbs
Audio = Dolby 5.1 @ 448kbs
NOTE: Some older dvd players may have problems playing back video encoded at high video bit rates, use standard quality template instead (below)
Save's time if you make a custom template using the above settings for NTSC.
Then under the GEAR Icon you click on "Change Mpeg Settings" and select your custom template.
I usually suggest to burn a DVD-R disk at 4X speed first. If they play properly then increase the burning speed higher if you like, 4X is a good starting point.

similar problem
I am using same camera and software - the problem looks similar, I've already installed the patch - same problems. Here is what I have:
I am trying to use MF5 which came with my HG10 Canon camera. The files from my HG10 are saved to my HD as *.M2TS files. When I go to new project/DVD/add video files - few seconds after loading the file I get error message "ulead dvd mf has encountered a problem and needs to close". Error report says: appname: dvdmf.exe appver: 5.0.0.0 modname:mciqtz32.dll modver: 6.5.2600.2180 offset: 000031c9 and long txt file is sent as a report.
Also when I try to play my movies recorded from HG10 camera using Intervideo windvd SE I am getting error message:"stop the file number 1 has invalid format".
I can play movies directly from my camera on TV.
I reinstalled my software.
I called Canon, they told me to contact Corel. Corel could not help me and told me to go web support
Any suggestions..........
Thanks

lesio333,
TheWalt,
Guessing of course but sounds like windows problems.
Sometimes we all have to re-install windows again, a complete fresh new installation on a clean harddisk.
This is very common for windows because of all the other video/audio applications, codecs and related programs you can install.
Many experienced video/audio persons keep a copy of the System as a backup, when problems occur they restore the OS backup.

problem fixed
I went to device manager/display adaptors and unistalled win... something which I remember did not have in the beginning; restarted the system and everything is working now.
my next step would be to unistall ATI drivers - I've read on other websites that sometimes it can cause some conflicts with MF 5.6.
Guys, I read all your posts and learnt a lot - thnx

Re: problem fixed
I can confirm this. Video could be imported, but upon edit Movie Factory crashed. Removing WinVNC:s device driver resolved this issue.lesio333 wrote:I went to device manager/display adaptors and unistalled win... something which I remember did not have in the beginning; restarted the system and everything is working now.
