Either no video capture driver is installed in this system..

Post by Roddytoo »

end of message above: or no device is connected.

Help! Downloaded the trial version, when I try to download a file I get the above message.
Camera: Canon HG10
All software with camera is installed, it will download using Ulead DVD movie factory 5.6, so a driver must be present.
Camera is connected via USB cable(provided with camera) and is switched on to download mode.
Is there a fault because this is the trial version?
Any advice gratefully received. Can find nothin in FAqs here or on the main site.

Welcome to the forums,

If you can transfer your video files using DVD MF5.6, then do so. Once the files are on your PC, you can insert them into VS for editing.

The software provided with your camcorder is a special edition (SE) version, and is tweaked to work with your camcorder. So we recommend using that software for transferring from the camcorder to your PC..

Download / editing problem

Post by Roddytoo »

Have tried downloading onto my hard drive, successful, intervideo windvd plays the files OK. In VS, usingmovie wizard error message comes up, 'file format mismatch'. These are .M2TS files. I thought VS could handle AVCHD files? Any ideas on where to go now?

Etech6355 is the "expert" on those. VS can handle them, just not in the same manner as SD video. Wait for Etech to respond, or if you're rushed, do a search using keywords M2TS, TransportStream, AVCHD h.264. You can also insert etech6355 into the author box. Try searching on both VideoStudio and DVD MovieFactory Forums. He's posted enough on this to publish a book..;)

I looked some up doing the search I specified:

You haven't told us which version of Video Studio you are using, though I am assuming it is VS11. If so, and it is VS11 PLUS version, have you applied the 6 November 2007 update patch (works also with VS11), AND the Power Pack of 8 November 2007? Both of these fix aspects of high definition/avchd capture and editing.

(Note: do NOT apply the third patch -- called the 'Hot Fix' at the top of the three patches on the Ulead.com site -- unless you have experienced the problem described in the note to it...)

You have also only given us sketchy details of your computer's specifications, but left out the all important details of what kind of CPU it has (apart from it being an AMD). However, unless it is a pretty powerful one, equivalent to an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad, you might have difficulty playing back avchd once it is edited (slowly) in any case...

Thanks guys, this is the trial version of VS11, just looked for the update and it won't work with this, so have to buy. Maybe if they want people to trial the software they should make the update available. I would try elecard for the same purpose, but it doesn't work with vista yet.
Will buy and let you know how I get on.

Sorry. I missed the point that it was a trial version. The patches don't work on trial versions. And there were problems with the original release (which remains the trial version! ) with avchd and high def video more generally. These were corrected with the patch and Hot Pack. But I realise it is a bit much, asking you to take that on faith!

Installing / converting files

Post by Roddytoo »

Making progress. Used the 27meg patch and 54 meg power update, can now edit the mts files. Can't find any information on how to convert to mpeg files for youtube etc. Any ideas?
My PC and laptop are recnt and both have dual core amd processors, so will run the mts videos.
Having probs with the laptop, the software seems to have not installed properly and I cannot uninstall all files. On reinstall / repair the disk only opens and installs a couple of files, the system detects a previous install and does the minimal repair, which does not work. My guess is that I will need to do a complete HDD rebuild, what a pain! Not keen to do this, so can anyone suggest an alternative?

Where were you looking? VideoStudio: Rendering for YouTube.
