Auto replay won't turn off - Why?

Post by zcotterg »

Hi,

I've been using VS since VS6. I just did a new video using VS11+ and every time I burn a disk I have the same problem: When the DVD finishes playing the DVD starts over again. I have double (triple, quadruple) checked to make sure that on the burn screen the "Auto Replay" box is not checked. It was on the first DVD I burned so that was the first thing I changed.

This is the first DVD I've created using VS11+ and not being able to make the end of the video the end is very annoying.

The DVD is 2.5 gig in size, runs 40 mins, does not have any chapters. It does have lots of transitions, multiple overlays, etc., but nothing (that I'm aware of) that should cause an auto replay

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Are you using the Suggested Workflow of first creating a video file before trying to burn your DVD?

It sounds like it is not picking up your change of the auto replay. After you uncheck the auto replay box close the burning window. You will get a message saying that it is saving. When you get back to the timeline re-save your project, then go to the buring module and try again.

A bug?

Post by 2Dogs »

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Just to clarify things - I disable the feature you describe by clicking on the "cogwheel" icon which is the middle one of three icons in the lower left corner of the screen that comes up in the "Share>Create Disc>DVD" step.

The box to be unchecked is "Auto repeat when disc playback ends"

When previewing the project in the burn module, however, Auto repeat does not seem to have been disabled - and indeed, the short test project I burned to DVD folders does repeat!

Could be a bug.

I've also done a short test on this. The DVD performed as it should with Auto-Repeat.. unchecked, after playing the last clip, returned to the menu. With this auto-repeat enabled, it returned to and played from the first clip.. :?

Curiouser and curiouser then....

I'll repeat the test on another pc, but I can definitely replicate the "problem" on my C2D notebook. All my pc's have the latest DirectX 9.0c.

I might add that in my test project I used an mjpeg .mov file from my digital camera on the timeline to create the DVD folders, rather than the SW - maybe that makes a difference.

I've just repeated the test project on my older Celeron M notebook, and get the same result.

With a DVD compliant mpeg-2 file inserted in the Create Disc step, I also get the same result.

I'm using the first clip in a motion menu (default template) and upon clicking on the "play" symbol the disc plays, then returns to the motion menu. It's not actually replaying the project, but it was my interpretation of the phenomenon the OP described. Perhaps it's unavoidable that the disc will return to the main menu upon completion.

I thought that also, but as far as I know there's never been a means to have the DVD just stop, as if pressing the stop button on the remote. All DVDs that I've made return to the menu, upon completion of the last clip.

THANK YOU ALL!

Your combined answers explained what I was doing wrong. Another case of WAD - Working As Designed, just not Working as Desired.

On my previous DVDs I had always had chapters. When you have chapters, you have a Menu so that you can select the chapter you want. With this DVD I decided I didn't want or need chapters, so I didn't set any.

Because I didn't have chapters I figured I didn't need a Menu.

Wrong. Tilt. It appears that the DVD was looping because it was doing what it always did - it "returned" to the Menu when it ended. Since there wasn't a menu, it played what was there...the whole video.

I added a menu, reburned the DVD, and guess what? It returns to the menu and then stops. I'm just surprised that I didn't realize that a Menu was as important as it is.

Again, thanks for all the feedback - you helped me get my project completed!

Could still be a bug, because that is not how it works with v10+. Sometimes I use menus, sometimes I don't. When I don't use a menu and the video finishes playing it just stops, it does not repeat.
