Image Size question

Post by dhier »

I have a number of images of differring sizes, i.e. 2304x1728, 1280x960, etc. I know in the old MediaStudioPro, if you didn't resize them to 320x240, they would be distorted if you didn't. Does anyone know if you can import any still image/picture without it being distorted with MovieMaker 6+?

Thanks...

First I've moved this to the proper forum..

I've used large image sizes in VS, without resizing them, without distortion. The 320 x 240 seems to be a size used for web broadcasts. Most hosting services like YouTube recommend a 640 x 480 for your videos, so I would not resize my images any smaller.

The frame size for images in a video editing program depends on your target outcome. If for DVD to be viewed on television sets, I would use the 720 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 (PAL) DVD standards. However if you are applying pan/zoom effects, I would use a larger image size to start with, to preserve the quality when the image is zoomed in.

Again I've dropped images into VS, and MSP, that are as large as the dimensions you stated without any problems..

The problem is that the jury seems to be out on this one. I am exactly like Ron and use images straight out of my 7 MP Canon digital still camera and have never had the slightest problem of them becoming distorted when used in either Video Studio (successive versions) or Movie Factory.

But to be frank, we seem to be among the lucky users. Quite a few other users say they have to trim their photos -- along the lines Ron suggested -- to get them to display correctly.

I simply don't know the answer to this one. It is pretty clearly not Video Studio or Movie Factory which is making the difference since we are using the same versions as everyone else. I can only say it probably has something to do with the hardware architecture of individual computers... Not that that is saying all that very much!!

So at the end of the day, it is really up to individual users to experiment to see what they can get away with on their own equally individual computers!

Large images may require more real memory

Perhaps the answer is the main memory and/or the virtual page size on the pc is not sufficient. We should collect the main memory and page size settings on the pc of users who can't get this to work. I have over 3GB main memory on mine and my virtual page size is over 4GB, and I have not had any problems... Al

Hi

All your sizes are 4 x 3 ratio and should not distort
Unless you are working with 16:9 and appling Fit to Project
