Activating Media Studio Pro 8 Again - Help

Post by krwzmann »

Hope someone can help. I've have to format my computer and am looking to re-install MediaStudio Pro 8 onto my system. I have my install disc and my paperwork with the activation code and SN. When I try to activate (by clicking activate and enterting the activation code) I keep getting the error that my activation code is incorrect. Could this problem possibly be that the server that the software is trying to connect to for verification is no longer up? I hope not because that would mean that i'll never be able to use media studio pro again? Please help!

MSP, as far as I know, doesn't need an activation code. I had my copy re-installed several times already after a PC re-build and each and every time the serial number is sufficient.

Hi Heinz. When I purchased MSP8 back in October 2005, I purchased the downloadble copy. I made the payment and then was given the link to the file for download (which was actually just the Try Before you Buy - TBYB) and an activation code. I also ordered the physical installation disc to be sent to me as well. Upon installing this disc, it is the TBYB install. It says I have 30 days to try or I can Buy / Activate / Try / Learn More / Exit.

I think I may be out of luck seeing as that I need to 'activate'. I'd hope it would still work seeing as that they're still selling MSP8 but under the Corel name. I've reinstalled this software at least one other time a year ago and it worked fine but doing it now does not seem to work unfortunately. Anymore help would be appreciated hopefully. Thanks again.

The TBYB version can only be installed once on a system. After the trial expires or the system clock has been tampered with, you will be unable to install and run it.

Your purchased disc should not have been a TBYB version and should not need activation. If it is the TBYB, the activation code should work.

I would contact the original vendor of the program.

Hold it, Heinz. When MSP8 first came out, the downloadable versions DID need an activation code. This caused immense difficulties, as I remember, and it was quickly dropped. I don't know the details, as I installed mine from CD, which did not need activation. I seem to remember that, when Ulead dropped it, they had some means whereby those with it could drop it or something, but this is hazy in my memory, because it didn't concern me. I suggest the OP may wish to search in the archives here to find out what to do. I'm pretty sure that he will still be able to use his MSP, but something needs changing.

Hi
Have a quick look at the FAQs and have you tried just clicking 'next' without putting any code in?

If you haven't done so already, drop the tech support people a line. I know it can take a couple of days for a reply but I had a similar problem with Cool3DPS and they set up a separate download link to download components.
Thanks & regards.

Now that you mention it Devil, I do remember the fuss about Ulead coming up with this st*pid idea of activation of a program which is best run on a machine which is not connected to the internet. I didn't upgrade to it until quite a while later, not only because of that. No idea though what it was people had to do.

I still have a problem with the OP's statement that the back up CD he bought installs as a TBYB version

That's not such a far-fetched notion considering that the "activation" version Ulead released for that short time, is basically what a TBYB version is.

A TBYB uses an activation key, to unlock or activate to a full version. However IIRC, that activation version of MSP, required both a serial number and the on-line activation. Something that Corel has done now for a few versions of their Draw Graphics Suites, and Adobe does with it's high-end programs.

Let's hope they do not start implementing it with the video editing apps again...;)

I've tried contacting customer support but have not yet received a response. I ended up having to bite the bullet and purchased media pro again since I needed to move forward asap.
