Okay Bill, you have me confused again. You say you didn't render, just "saved from the edit function". I don't understand that statement.
Please try to be precise with you answers, do not answer "from memory", as we keep going round and round with this.

What Jeff means is: tell us step by step what you steps you took, or more to the point which commands you used. In this latest one, for instance, did you go to File > Save (or Save As)? Or did you go to Share > Create Video File (or Share > Create Disc > DVD)?
I confess that, like Jeff, I am also now totally confused...

Captured a clip from the camera. MPEG (PaL)
>Edit> Properties ~ MPEG-2 Video 720 x 576 PAL Lower Field First
MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
> Timeline>View Audio ~ Audio + Waveform in Video Track
>Split Audio ~ Audio dropped to Voice track
Added a Music Clip to the Music Track `~ Bar and waveform in the music track
I was then able to mute each track separately and adjust volume separately using the mixer.
>Edit >File > Save As
>File> New Project and opened the test Clip.
>Properties ~ .vsp File.
>Edit > Time Line >View Audio>Split Audio ~ Audio Dropped to Voice Track but only one audio track. Unable to Edit the tracks separately which is what my original query Was about. viz I cannoit change the added Music track without at the same time deleting the original video sound track

If you went to File and chose New Project, how did you then open an existing vsp? The way to open an existing project would be to use File>Open Project.>File> New Project and opened the test Clip.

I just followed your instructions, and unless I'm mistaken are you opening your Saved VSP, or Inserting your VSP? The latter would be treating your VSP as a Video File, which would have the audio and video combined. Then of course when you split the audio, you're splitting the mixed (combined video audio, and music) from the "Saved As" project file.
When you insert a VideoStudio Project file (VSP) you can not edit that project file, inside another project file. You must open that project file to further edit it..
Opening the "Saved As" VSP, all the tracks are as they were. So the key here, and why we were having a hard time figuring out what was happening, is the difference between Opening a Project file and Inserting a Project file.
