Analogue capture using ATI all in wonder boards.

Analogue capture using ATI all in wonder boards.
A while ago our computer using XP and VS8 gave up the ghost, this meant a new PC and Vista using VS11+. We hoped we could use the last of the line AIW cards to capture analogue video after all both were supposed to be certified for use with Vista. Now several frustrating months later and lots of phone calls to those useless idiots at Corels customer support, I finally got an answer regarding VS11+ and analogue capture cards. They said that VS11 does not support AIW cards nor will it do in the future.

I stopped using the ATI AIW series when they moved to the newer chipsets that perform all the hardware compression directly on the card. Many of them also come with an audio chipset that also appears as another device under the sound section listed under the computers devices.
The mpeg files captured from my older ATI AIW cards were easy to capture and edit (both in the ATI software or the ulead software, usually I used the ATI capturing software). The mpeg's produced from the newer AIW cards I tried weren't as easy to edit. I also had to use the ATI capturing software to capture video with using their new line of AIW video cards..
When using ATI I'll only purchase a video only card. If someone does have an ATI AIW you capture using the software from ATI. It's tailored to their special chipsets. You make your own "DVD Mpeg2" complaint templates and capture video to the dvd compliant specs. The videos can load into any of the ulead authoring modules and are accepted as dvd compliant, they are not re-encoded and passed through the encoder to the dvd.
As Doug says capture with the software that's supplied with the AIW video card.
The "ATI TV Wonder Pro" probably will work with the ulead software (always did).
The "ATI TV Wonder Pro ELITE" uses the newer chipset (true hareware compression), only compatible to capture with the ATI capturing software.
I now prefer to use the Hauppauge line of analog capturing devices to capture analog video.

The card an x1900 AIW was an oem and had no software with the card, Ati also now state on the relaese notes of thier latest Catalyst drivers that no software has been tested that will provide analouge video capture with the AIW boards using VISTA although they don't actually state that they do not work. The person I spoke to at the Corel support help desk told me that the problem that I had enquired about was at level 2 and it was that department that gave the info regarding the card, they also sated that they could not advise me of any capture hardware that would work using a VCR or Video 8 camera.
The release notes say there is one program that works with TV capture
Guess you have to use XP to use the ATI media center.ATI All-in-Wonder™ boards operate with AMD's Windows Vista ready display and capture drivers under the Windows Vista operating system. However, the Windows Vista Media Center application does not support TV/Capture functionality provided by the ATI All-in-Wonder™. TV/Capture functionality is qualified to function with Snaptream's BeyondTV 4.6 for Windows Vista. Other third party solutions (such as Arcsoft's Total Media 3) may support TV/Capture with the ATI All-in-Wonder™, but these applications have not been fully tested by AMD.

ATI 9800 all in one 128 MB drivers and VS11+
I've the ATI 9800 all in one 128 MB board and the newest drivers from ATI are integrated. That is, device manager shows only one device, instead of the 5 separate WDM devices previously listed. VS11+ correctly finds the AVStream Analog Capture T200, but will not enable capture, saying there is no capture device. I'm running windows xp. ATI has yet to respond to my request for information or the last of the non integrated drivers. While the forum implies Ulead will not support all in one cards, in the past, and with the separate drivers, it works fine. I'd like to keep the drivers up to date. Any thoughs on resolving this issue?
Thanks, Pete
Thanks, Pete
As far as I know Corel will not support the AIW cards with VS11+ or any other product in either XP or Vista. I think it has something to do with fact that VS no longer uses Direct Show ( I believe this changed around VS9/10). There other video editing programs available that still use Direct Show for capture, this is how I solved my problem with analogue video capture from VCR's etc.

Thanks!
Thanks. I'm using the old drivers and since they work, will keep them until forced to change. I've read that I should use the ATI capture, so I guess I will go to that when I'm forced to change. Lesson learned about ATI all in one cards.
