VS11+ Import from Audio CD causes System reboot!!

Post by GeorgeC »

In VS11+ (with all updates and patches, except "Hot Fix") has anyone experienced a System reboot when the "Import from Audio CD" button is pressed? I can repeat the problem every time. Is it a bug in the program or is there some "fix".

Thanks,
George

Can't say that I have.

Is this happening with all or any audio CD, or just a specific one? Is the CD a commercial CD or one that was home-made ie; burned? If it is the latter, it maybe that the CD is scratched or has some defect, doubtful but possible.

Workaround: Try using another program, like WMP to rip the audio and convert it to a wav file. Then insert the wav file into VS.

It happens with any CD.

Yes I normally rip to the HDD first (I use ITunes) and then import to VS. I thought I'd try the VS method but I'll leave it well alone now. I guess I should report it to VS Support? Maybe it conflicts with the resident ITunes grabber?

So it's an i-Tunes CD, not a "normal" CD? The normal CD format that you can play in your car stereo use the *.CDA extension. That's what VS will be looking for and can convert/rip. I"m not sure what the file format would be for i-Tunes music CD. Will not let it near any PC of mine...

I've had problems ripping CDs with VS, although not your particular problem. I have resorted to ripping with some other app then importing.

Like Jeff, I too do my ripping in another program. Then because almost inevitably I want to trim the music to fit a defined space in my project, and add fade-in or out, or otherwise vary it, I use a third party audio editor which gives me plenty of control -- much more than I get in VS with audio.

It is a "normal" CD iTunes manages my music for my iPod and rips the music to mp3 format ONLY if I select to use it.

Ken/BlackLab, I do normally use Cool Edit to rip and fine tune but as I saw the import audio in VS11+ I thought I'd give it a go but not anymore.
