Fading Titles - VideoStudio

Post by ChristmasGrinch »

Ok. I've figured out how to get the "fade" effect on titles. (Actually, the effect I'm using is the "drop" effect.) I have the first page as the title page on my timeline. What I want to have happen is the text to drop in, hold for two beats, and then the page will turn to the next frame. (I'm using a page turn effect.)

What is happening is the text drops in, and as soon as it's finished dropping in, it pops off the screen immediately so I have black screen, and then the page turn. How do I slow it down? I want it to drop in, hold for a second or two, and then onto the next transition which is a picture. I'm also having the same trouble at the end where I have a fade in of all the text, and then it disappears. I'd like to do a fade in of the text, have it hold, and then have it fade out.

Please tell me this is possible without having to contact Steven Spielberg!

PS: The version I'm using is Video Studio 11 Plus. Thanks again!

To accomplish this you will need to copy/paste (drag to the library, then back to the time-line) your title. On the second (copy) title, change the animation to fade-out. You may need to shorten the duration of your title to get it to fit with your album.

The second effect, fade-in, hold, fade-out is called a Cross-Fade. Select one of the Fade presets, then press the TT to the right of the preset drop-down. You should see the Cross-Fade Option. You then can select from the Pause drop-down option User Defined. To adjust the duration use the Pause/Duration (blue bar with triangles) under the preview window.

I often use 3 copies of the title.

First make your title - do not apply animation at this point. Now drag it up to the Titles Library to make a copy.

The title you made is already on the timeline. Set the animation to fade in. Now pick the title from the library and drag it down to the timeline. Set the duration for how long you want the title to appear on screen. Now drag your title down again and set the animation for fade out. If you want quicker fade ins/outs you can either adjust the Pause/Duration or the actual length (time) of the title, which is sometimes easier with this method.

Bob,

If you're referring to MSP (MediaStudio Pro), that's correct. It is being dropped. Which is fine, as long as you have an XP machine to run it on. Just because it's not Vista compatible, doesn't mean that it needs to be thrown away..;)

Using VS11+ w/updates, I learned how to do a real nice fade in & out from this post but can't figure if this one is possible. I'm fading in using the word at a time function but would like to fade in the 1st word, then the next two words at the same time, then the fourth. Thought I could add an invisible character between the 2nd & 3rd word to make it continuous. No luck with the invisible part. Is there a way to make a letter completely transparent?

Note: The first word is on a different line from the others. Is there way to bring in the 1st, and while the 1st is still showing, bring in the others on their own separate fade in? But then how would I fade them out all together? I notice you can't overlap titles on the timeline. Or is there a way to affect the timing of individual words on the fade? Am I making any sense?! :?

Disregard the previous. I posted the question in the VideoStudio forum. Why yes, of course I read the READ ME FIRST post after I had posted here in the tutorials.
