"Video Studio has stopped working and must close"

Post by kelleen »

I'm working in VS11+ and the program continually freezes up and I get the message "Video STudio has stopped working and must close". I am doing simple things like cutting a clip, or applying an audio filter to the original video audio, it even crashes when trying to create a video file. I have tried turning off all background programs, disconnecting from the interest, etc. It seems that it has continually gotten worse, i.e., yesterday I could at least get it to create a video file and sound file. Today I cannot get even that to work. I have updated my Directx. Any suggestions ? The only thing I have installed in the past week is PhotoImpact X3 and a couple windows updates.

Kelleen -- you've been on the Board long enough now to know that we really need to know the properties of the video you are editing are, where it came from, what you are intending to convert it/burn it to etc. Otherwise, we would just be guessing....

sorry...frustration drives me into a forgetful mode. I captured video from Panasonic DV camcorder as an AVI file thru WinDv. Drug the clip into the timeline - it asked me if I wanted to change the project settings to match the video clip - I said yes. The clip is 2 minutes long. I split the audio and applied the pitch change filter, ulead quit working. REbooted and tried the same thing again, got thru the same exact process as above ok, and then selected 'share' - create video file - same as project settings - it got to 85% rendering and then I got the message again. I'm trying to make an AVI file so that I can use the clip in another program. Hope this makes sense.

That's particularly strange given that you are dealing with the normally very stable and easily editable DV format...

Have you applied the 6 November update patch and 8 November Hot Pack to make it version 11.5, by the way? They're available on the Ulead website. NOTE: do NOT apply the Hot Fix i.e. the patch at the top of the list. Only the lower two, starting with the bottom one first.

yes I have applied the patch, also updated my directX. The same thing has happened in the last week even when I drag photos to the timeline and then add transitions. There have been a few occasions in the past when I close out VS and I have gotten the same message.

Have you ever installed a mega codec pack? If so, they often cause conflicts with existing codecs. The best option is to uninstall the codec pack, and if you are really needing one or more of its codecs, then reinstall, but choosing only those specific codecs.
