DV Quickscan doesn't work using Sony HDV and VS11
I'm capturing HDV from a Sony HDR-HC5. The DV quickscan option seems not to work. Is this because there's only one capture plugin in VS11+ (I have 11.5) and it wants to capture into MPEG not DV ?

Hi Chris,
Your cam records HDV onto Mini DV tape in the form of MPEG2 files that have a very high bitrate...25mbs.
VS can only transfer those files to your computer as MPEG2s because thats what is on the tape.
The DV quickscan feature will not be available to you because that only applies to standard defintion DV avi files recorded on to dv tape.
Clear as mud?

All the Sony HDV camcorders have an Internal DownConvert feature in them.
Go into the Menu system of the HC5 and turn on the HDV -> DV downconvert feature.
Any video that was recorded in HDV (High Definition) will be converted to Standard Definition and output via the firewire port as Standard DV (lower field first).
A great feature, to bad this feature isn't available on the Canon HV20. (What!!!
)
Make sure to always turn the camcorder OFF before plugging firewire cables in or out, and do not have any usb cables connected at the same time a firewire cable is plugged in. Firewire is NOT a hot pluggable wired connection. USB is hot plugable.
