can't export video

Post by Phil P »

Using retail version of MF6+, patch #2, HD power pack. Clean install. Captured HDV video from canon HV20 camcorder. Can not export video. Seems like caught in an endless loop. Processor active, but nothing being exported. Any suggestions?

You need to post most accurately how you are exporting the video, there are to many different configurations to export to.
mpeg, vcd, svcd, avc/h264, hd-mpeg2, dv, other etc.

I have been matching the project settings to the format that was captured, ie. MPEG-2 video, upper-field first, 24 bits, 1440x1080, 16x9, 29.97 frames/s, 25000 kbps constant rate, MPEG audio layer 2, 48,000Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 384kbps. Figured the less the conversion the better the output quality to the original. The video saves OK with capture but I can not export it in the first step. Am trying to use fast export.

Phil,
What module are you in? The HD-DVD module?

That's correct, you should make your project settings (under the GEAR Icon) equal to your source videos properties (unless you want to change the audio to lpcm or Dolby audio). I suggest making a custom template, then under the GEAR Icon you simply apply that custom template as your project settings. You can also use the custom template in the export features of MF.

To explain the "Fast Export" feature the Fast Export reads the video file that you have selected and uses it's properties to fast export the video. This has nothing to do with whether the video is compliant or not for the project. It's a nice feature and uses smart-render to re-write the new video file.

Fast Export does not work though if you have edited the video such as text overlays, filters etc. Then the video needs to be re-encoded. Fast Export will work for multi-trimmed or cut video.

How did you capture the video? You should be able to use the Fast Export feature by highlighting the video and then selecting "Export xxxx -> Fast Export".

Did you edit the video or use the JOIN feature? Then the video needs to be re-encoded which you would then use the "Export Compliant Video" (directly above the Fast Export). The "Export Compliant" will use the Project Settings (under the GEAR Icon) to render the new video file to. It will also use smart render to do this if the video properties and project settings match each other.

"Fast Export" being greyed out.
Most likely your video is in it's native tape format which is the TS (transport stream) format. You would need to convert it to PS (program stream) format for the "Fast Export" to work properly.

I use either "Avidemux2" or Super to convert the TS videos to PS format.

Thanks for the reply etech.
I am in the "HD DVD on DVD 4.7G" module. I captured the video with firewire connection from my Canon HV20 camcorder. The video is an .mpg file. Nothing is greyed out. I have gone from the capture to directly (no editing or joining) trying to "fast export" as well as "fast export HD-DVD compliant video" on different occasions with the same results. There seems to be processor activity, there seems to be hard drive activity, but no progress in exporting even after allowing it to run for several hours.

I am also having problems rendering anything. Have done multiple clean reinstalls after removing roxio, quicktime, & real player. Can capture HDV video from my Canon HV20 camcorder, can make menus, but when I get to the last step, the video will not render. CPU and hard drive seem to be active, but no progress (0% on converting video of title, 3% total progress). Even after running for several hours. Also every time I reinstall, I get a window that says "1670" when I restart the computer after installation. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

I haven't had to use this option yet, which is to install the HotFix First.
Then install MF6+.
So un-install MF6+ completely.
After un-installing remove this directory (including all it's sub-folders).
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\MovieFactory 6

After un-installing the above.
The updates to MF6+ are below, the top link is a HotFix to be installed before installing MF6+
http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm

Install the "HotFix" first,
Then the MF6+ program.
Then Patch# 2
Then the HD-Addon-pack
Reboot as necessary.
I'm pretty sure the HD-Add-on pack has directx included with it. If not you should download & install Directx 9.0c dated November 2007.

If that doesn't work it's possible the captured videos may be corrupt. I've had this problem with some DV tapes. Not all DV tapes work that great with the High Def cams, so if your mixing tapes I suggest to clean the heads and start using a good name brand tape making sure to stay with the same tapes. Not sure if that's what's wrong though.

If your capturing in MF6+ then the videos are in the PS (program stream) format. MF6+ captures in the Program Stream format. The external utility program HDVSplit captures in the TS (transport stream) format. Since MF6+ captures in the PS format you should be able to fast export the video.

This is also a nice HDV capturing program and also supports scene splitting. It captures in the TS format so you can't fast export these files unless you convert them to PS first. You can burn them to HD-DVD without being re-encoded.

The hot fix instructions say to use this if it says "A fatal error has occurred during installation" which it has not done for me. It does, however, say "1670" after I install and restart the computer. In addition, the trial version of MF6+ worked well for me. I only started having problems when I installed the retail version. Was just a little nervous because it said the hot fix can not be uninstalled. What does the hot fix actually do? Would you still recommend I install the hot fix first?
