How good is the DVD creation (menus etc..) in Media Studio Pro :?: Would DVD Workshop be worth the $ to buy :?: Just wondering...

MSP is a modular program with several modules (i.e., video editing, audio editing, titling, video capture, etc). Basically, these are all separate applications. The DVD creation aspect of MSP is a basic version of Ulead's DVD Movie Factory. It is no where near as robust as DVD Workshop and even limited compared to the latest version of DVD Movie Factory.

That said, if your DVD creation will be very basic--video, slideshows, menus--and you don't need precise control over menu creation and how the dvd plays it will be fine.

My advice is if you purchase MSP, go ahead and experiment with the DVD Movie Factory that comes with it and see if it meets your needs. Then, only if it doesn't spend the extra money on a more advanced dvd creation software like DVD Workshop.

Personally, I use MSP7 to edit my video and Sonic's DVDit for authoring. DVDit isn't any better than DVD Workshop (in fact, I'm sure it doesn't have as many features) but it is worlds better than DVD Movie Factory, meets all my needs and is cheaper than DVD Workshop. Just my $.02 worth.

I have used, on rare occasions, the whole MSP suite through to DVD, where I needed only a relatively simple menu. Generally, I create the DVD-compliant MPEG-2 in MSP and then switch to DVD Workshop 2 for authoring it. The combination works fine and offers very sophisticated menu, subtitle, sound track creation in its authoring. I also have MF3 but have not used it a great deal for authoring, although it is better than the version of MF2 included as an MSP7 module. However, I have used other features in the MF3 Disk Creator for copying etc.
