Show A "Digital Stopwatch" On Screen....

Post by Boydie »

Hi All

I will be starting a few projects soon that will need an occasional "stopwatch" clock to show on the screen

I will then want to "freeze" this clock at certain key points to illustrate the time between certain key actions - e.g. the time taken from walking into a shop to being acknowleged by the staff etc.

Assuming VS does not have this feature built in (I have had a quick look) I am thinking I can run a simple video of a stopwatch as an "overlay" track in say the bottom right of the screen

I can then use a "title" to "freeze" the time

My questions are:

Is this the right way to go about this in VS (I have version 10)?

Does anybody have a link to a suitable stopwatch video clip that will run into minutes?

Ideally I would like a very simple digital clock that has just the digits showing - I am assuming I can play around with chroma key effects if I find the right video clip

Can anyone help! :?:

the overlay approach would be the way to go.

If you can;t find a video or shoot one your self.

You can then use titles that change every say 10 seconds. EG

Time Elapsed: 00.10

then

Time Elapsed: 00.20

etc

This could be tucked away in a corner of the screen so it's not too destracting.

I downloaded the vft file , moved to the Vft_Plug folder and the next time I started VS11+ it crashed. Started VS1 again , no crashes but the Timecode filter was not on the filters list. Something not compatible with Vista maybe ?

I just did the same, and got exactly the same results: first VS11.5+ crashed, but restarted OK. However, no 'Robotique' group in Filters, nor any 'Timecode' listed -- though it is there in the Vft_Plug folder. I even rebooted in case that might help, but it didn't.

I note by the way that the Timecode.vft file is many orders of magnitude larger than all the other files in the folder.

Downloaded it, unzipped it and ran it - worked in VS10+ on XP perfectly.

Yes, I have it installed on my VS10, so this must be another VS11 issue.

Installed on my notebook XP with VS11+ and it works. More likely a Vista issue.

Yes it looks like a Vista issue, I will update The link stating it appears to only work with XP.

Hi, great guys,

Like I promised to keep you posted in the original post. I also downloaded it, unzipped it and can’t further on how to copy it out from WinZip to the VS requested folder: even right-clicking the mouse, can’t find any “copy” button. I use also VS10+ with XP.

Your prompt response will help greatly.
