New Version???

Post by joetg »

I've heard rumors of a new version of Media Studio Pro coming out soon. Does anyone know of any truth behind this??? If so, I'm going to wait to upgrade so I don't waste $150 later.

What you've heard is just that--rumors. That doesn't mean there isn't a new version on the horizon though. Ulead just released version 9 of their "consumer" video editing software, Video Studio. I believe in the past that these releases were closely (months?) followed by a new version of MSP. That might be why the rumors have started.

Normally, not only is there no official word preceding these releases, but it is a close kept secret (to keep sales of current versions going). However, Ulead did give out a press release almost a month before Video Stuio just came out.

Do you really think that they would issue a new service pack just a month or two before a new version? All that has been published is that development will continue and a new version is on the cards but the time scale is unknown. From what I've heard, this will be a radical upgrade with many new features, so basic development plus alpha testing plus beta testing would take typically 15 - 24 months from the start to release. I do know that they had not started development this time last year.

Devil,
As far as releasing the service pack close to the next major release, I know it might not sound sensible. However, sometimes software companies will do this to test and see the response of some of the features that will be included in the next major version. It's almost like beta testing certain features.

I've also heard that Ulead likes to hear the responses to the new features in Video Studio releases and use that information when updating MSP. So, like I started my last post--it's all rumors.

I do hope that the next release is a "radical upgrade" like you stated and anxiously await it.

This cannot apply to SP3 which is mainly tweaks and debugs. To use the classical phrase, if I told you all I know, I would have to kill you! Having said that, I don't really know much more than I've already told you, other than to say that it's far too early to start holding your breath, so your anxiety will have to grow and that is not a rumour but hard fact.

Actually, if the truth be told, as a member of the beta testing team under an NDA, I'm quite curious to know about the new features, as well.

Devil,
Thanks for that information. I guess I can stop holding my breath. Actually, I'm quite happy with MSP7, but am always looking for more and better features.
