New MovieFactory Analog Connection Issues

Post by mycroft69 »

I've been a devoted customer of Ulead for several years, even to the point of encouraging the organization for which I work to buy Ulead products. I've been sent some offers by Ulead to upgrade from MovieFactory 4 to the current version. When I acquired VideStudio 11 last year, it failed to connect to the driver for my K-World DVD Maker USB analog device (also showing in Windows as a USB 2800 video device), even after patching. Now I see throughout this forum that MF6 is incurring the same issues for other analog devices. I suspect that the same would arise for me should I purchase it.

I would like to voice my extreme displeasure to Ulead/Corel about this, and inform the company that I must reluctantly take my business elsewhere. I've been quite happy with all previous software made by the company. I don't know what's going on, but wonder if the coincidence of acquisition by Corel might have had an impact on this.

If the company can correct this problem, I might reconsider. But it had better hurry.

For Corel to see your message you need to go to the Corel website, http://www.corel.com, navigate to the Support, Customer Care, and post it there.

Only certain forums on this web board are viewed by anyone from Corel, which is very seldom. The forum Wishlist for Future Versions is about the only one read.

You are almost always better-off using the capture software that came with your analog capture hardware. Some capture-hardware and capture-software just don't "play well together". Apparenty, there are no standards for capture hardware, software, or drivers. And I don't expect the situation to improve, since few companies seem to be focusing on anything analog. :(

Once you have a digital A/V file on your hard drive, you can use the video editing and DVD authoring software of your choice.

Vidoman-

went to the Corel>Support address and couldn't find a thing there about Customer Care. Any other ideas on where I could drop my comment to them?

Although the capture software that came with the device certainly works, I was always able to do as well with MovieFactory and VideoStudio...until the latest iterations of these products. Reliance upon another product is far from an incentive to continue with the current ones, especially when Ulead has done better.

I might add that I've been using PhotoImpact far longer. But these trends lead me to believe that I must abandon all Ulead/Corel products.

Maybe you should also abandon Microsoft because almost all these analog capture devices don't work under Vista either.
All new computers are being distributed with Vista installed.
You are not alone with all these new incompatibilities.

I prefer a consumer dvd recorder and import the dvd's made in the dvd recorder. Works on all platforms.

That was out of line on your part. I expressed no animosity; instead, I find this turn of events almost depressing because of my reliance on Ulead apps. I've been happy with Ulead for years and have been an advocate of theirs in my workplace, which has led to my employer exclusively using Ulead products in high profile work.

For your information, I build my own systems, and those of my sideline business and family members. And not one of them has Vista, nor will they ever, unless Microsoft makes some drastic changes to the OS AND to their pricing.
