videostudio 10+ editing question

I'm doing an editing program that has 2 people on the screen at the same time, much like with 2 people on the telephone with the line through the screen so they're shown together.

the clips are on two different clip. i was thinking of using multiple editing, but how do you get the correct transition for the effect I want. is there a tutorial for this sort of thing.
