unable to open UVS 11 Plus
Having downloaded Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus (Vista compatible,trial/evaluation version) direct from Corel¡¦s site, saved on a directory, installed, and then trying to open that program, I cannot do it. Does not react at all. UAC is activated ()asking me permision tu continue,AV desactivated during installation, reboot many times.Repeating downloading (from same source as well as from other source as BitTorrent), uninstalling the previous installed one - as per ¡§cleaning¡¨ procedure I saw in Corel's forum - then re-installing the software, same *** as Administrator and adjusting firewall settings accordingly, same result, cannot open the program neither by double-clinking icon on desktop/Start Program nor exe file.Note:1)There is another Ulead software (licensed),named ¡§Ulead DVD MovieFactory for Toshiba¡¨ allready installed, working perfectly.2)I¡¦m using a Notebook Toshiba Satellite P200-10C, Vista Home Premium as OS, Intel Core(2) duo T7200, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, Intel 945, Realtek High Definition Audio, dual HDD 125GB each, 2046MB memory, integrated webcam.3)Try to install UVS 11 Plus downloaded from a BitTorrent tracker(after cleaning as above) and a message occurs : ¡§The security information is invalid or has been modified¡¨. Cannot open the program, so I uninstalled it. There might be a problem specific to Vista security policy or just something specific to UVS when working on Vista?Have I poor knowledge to handle Vista or UVS ?How to locate the problem:on my side as knowledge,on particular Vista security settings/restrictions or Ulead program ?Have posted same question on Corel' forum but no body get me an answer by now.I'll due to anybody who might assist me, thanks in advance

Since I have been using Vista (about a month now) the advice given to me was to not install software with Autorun.
CD: Navigate to setup.exe file in CS and right click and then "run as Administrator). Double click icon as per normal after installing.
Downloaded File: I keep all downloaded exe files in a special Internet Download folder.... I richt click them and "run as Administrator"
I haven't had any problems so far.

While I have no idea what might have been wrong with your original attempt to install the trial version (though I think that might have been cured at the time by Clevo's suggestion), I think you are now being affected somehow by this:
Please don't get me wrong. I am not making accusations or being judgmental. I am just trying to think the problem through. I also don't know how confident you are about going into the Registry through regedit and eradicating every reference to Video Studio you can find.
The only other things I can think of would be (1) to try to install in Safe Mode; or (2) run it in XP compatibility mode. I have a P4 computer on which I installed Vista over an existing XP Pro installation i.e. I did not reformat and start from scratch. I very occasionally get problems installing programs, and usually find that 'Run as Administrator' solves them. But in a couple of recent cases, even though the program in question was Vista compliant, I found that once installed, it would only run properly if I enabled the XP compatibility.
To do that, you right click on the VS11 icon on your desktop, and select Properties. In the box that appears, there are several tabs, one of the them being Compatibility. You will see towards the top, beside an empty little check box 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' with the next box (Windows XP (Service Pack 2)) grayed out. Tick the first box and the latter becomes active. Next time you try to start VS11, you will get the annoying Vista UAC check, but you may thereafter get the program working. Let us know.
As far as I am aware, there is nothing risky about this latter operation. And if it doesn't work, just uncheck that box again.
I might be wrong, but your refrence to BitTorrent suggests you may have downloaded a bootleg copy of VS. While this may or may not be the case, and although you have removed it, it could have left traces on your computer. It is possible, for instance, that the trial version sees traces of that installation and thinks a full version is already there, so won't load (though I think that would be odd in its own right). Or, from the reference to 'security information', believes that the trial period of 30 days has either expired or, worse, has been terminated because of a perceived attempt to hack around the trial period.Try to install UVS 11 Plus downloaded from a BitTorrent tracker(after cleaning as above) and a message occurs : ¡§The security information is invalid or has been modified¡¨.

Dear Sir,your advices are getting me toward the conclusion that tere is a mater of UVS software rather than Vista security settings. Installing from Safe Mode is not possible ("Error 1719.Windows Installer sevice could not be accesed.Contact your personnel to verify that that it nis properly registered and enabled").Installing and running in compatible mode does not changd anything. After making a backup of registry have delete the followings (http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=55773):Ken Berry wrote:While I have no idea what might have been wrong with your original attempt to install the trial version (though I think that might have been cured at the time by Clevo's suggestion), I think you are now being affected somehow by this:I might be wrong, but your refrence to BitTorrent suggests you may have downloaded a bootleg copy of VS. Also purge/delete all files in C:\Windows\Temp and follow instruction from http://support.corel.com/scripts/rightn ... p?p_faqid=.... (answer ID 762271 dated 01/18/2008)
As per "http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/asp ... rity-.aspx" site, as far as I understood, there is a file named "uvPL.exe" in charge with cheking the traces of old, hacked, full version (if any) previous installed/uninstalled. As per Corel's advise I found and install a patch named "Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus_PATCH.exe" which work exactly on uvPL.exe file (may be cleaning/preparing and instructing registry as for a new installation (full or trial version). I don't know how to uninstall the respective file once it is installed by UVS.
Finaly you are right: it seems I was punnished (havy payment) by downloading from an untrusted source (as is BitTorrent) without knowing it might be a hacked version. In fact what I does ? It looks like hacking a already hacked expired trial version. Amazing position I am.
You know why? Becose after doing all the above........ it works.
Franckly,I don't know which one of the above mesure taken was particulary efective for debuging (should install/uninstall each time do something). So, now UVS 11 Plus works, counting remining time of trial.
Thank you for assistance, doe to you I localizited the fault and checked more deeply an appropriete solution.
With respect,Dan
