Getting stop motion video using VS8 Studio Trial

Post by xplosion »

Am I doing anything wrong? I used the Wizard to pull some long scenes off a dvd-r. When I go to the editor and play the clips it plays them almost in full stop-motion. I cut out two five second clips from the longer file and put them in the timeline with a music file and got the same result.

I also tried the Overlay function on a different project. The original mpeg2 I was overlaying played smoothly (this was taken off DVD using a different product, Video ReDo) but the overlay clips (also made with Video ReDo) slowed down considerably.

On a third try, I assembled a series of Video ReDo-made clips on the timeline with a music track. The result wasn't as bad as stop-motion, but the playback was very jerky, less so when playing back the clips and more so playing back the project.

In all cases I cut the clips to the lengths I needed, so I am wondering where the stop-motion problem and jerky picture problems are coming from. The Video ReDo clips play with no problem when I use Windows Meda Player or Power DVD.

I am doing this on an emachines computer with 140 GB capacity, although with all I have stored on it now the capacity is down to about 100.

thanks for any help! Or should I wait for the VS9 trial to come out . . .

What are the specs of your system? Brand name is useless, we need the processor speed, and amount of RAM -- preferably the amount of free RAM. If you have UVS 8 or later (you again didn't say), you'll also need DirectX 9 or later, along with compatible video drivers.

Also, make sure that your Preview playback target isn't configured to be anything other than the Preview window, unless that is really what you want, and have your system set up accordingly. If your UVS is configured to send the Preview to both the Preview windows and a DV device, and the DV device isn't plugged in, the playback can stall.

p.s. I'm not at home right now so I can't experiment with the preview window suggestion yet
