Can I use VS8 projects in VS9 ?

Post by Snick »

I am planning to upgrade from VS8 to VS9 and soon to MSP7. Can I use my current VS8 projects, clips, smartsound files etc. in VS9 or should I finish VS8 projects before upgrading to VS9 and start with a clean slate?

Or can I have both applications VS8 & VS9 on my computer and use them indepent of each other.

Thanks

YES, Not necessarily , YES

You should not have any problems opening V8 projects in V9 - you can also import all your clips into V9 , the smartsound files are included with the V9 install. No need to finish projects in V8 first - you can indeed have V8 and V9 on your computer and use them both (though you cant have them both open at the same time) - in fact I would recommend that providing you are not short of HDD space you leave V8 on for a while to enable you to swap back until you become totally familiar with V9 - I still have versions 6, 7, 8, and now 9 on my PC.

Can I also recommend you buy the disc version of the upgrade - so much easier to install - so much easier to get the extra content - and the option to 'Repair' if something does go wrong with your installation.

I have been using my Ver. 8 projects in Ver. 9 without any problems.

I am also running Ver. 8 and Ver. 9 in my computer without any problems.

And to add to that you can import them into MSP too.

Wow!, Thanks for the info.
I will be buying the box versions and have downloaded the manuals to get a head start.

Thanks again

And VS9 allows project files to be inserted into the timeline as if they were individual video clips, which avoids the need to copy clip portions to the Media Library and back to the timeline when building a composite project.

In order to insert a VS8 project file into the VS9 timeline, however, it must be opened and resaved previously in the latter version.

Thanks all for the good news!

I am ordering VS9 today (box version) and intend to buy MSP in the future. I have heard that MSP usually upgrades soon after VS upgrades.

I have downloaded both manuals and the trial version of MSP7 to get a head start.

I am thrilled with the Ulead products, I have tried alot of NLE systems for PCs (including Avid) and nothing has compared for the money. Very solid and fun to use, I especially like the SmartSound element. Can't wait to sink my teeth into MSP.

I have worked for the last 15 years editing video and postproduction work exclusivly on Macs (Final Cut, After Effects) and am finding the PC side of things at home to be quite fun and productive.

Thanks Again, I solved alot of issues reading this board.
