2 problems

Post by Paul G »

I have loaded 3D CPS back onto my new computer & am attempting to use it again after a period of a couple of years. I am having a few problems with what I'm attempting.

I created a title that looked quite good & then decided to use that preset animated blue butterfly by having it fly out & land on top of the title. So far so good.. I then wanted to add a second butterfly to the project but have the second butterfly me a different color. I selected the butterfly & then took each wing part & choose color & tried changing. it to a bright yellow. There were 2 places to change color one being specular, color, whatever that is, Even when I had set each wing part to a bright yellow the change in the preview window did not reflect the new color but had changed almost not at all. In fact the 2 places where it invited you to change the color doesn't even reflect the the existing colors of the wing which would be what I expected. What am I doing wrong & how do I get a yellow butterfly?

I downloaded some extra presets from Videographics Info & am having problems getting anything to open. The video came with an .php extension. When I click on them & point the open with to C3DPS it can't open them what did I do wrong? I'm guessing that this is the correct file that I downloaded since the other files on the download page are videos.

Are there any other presets elsewhere that one can download?
Thanks in advance

Paul G,

The butterfly in C3DPS is using an image texture. What you are seeing is the image texture combined with the current color, that is why the color shown is not blue like you expected. You can change the color drastically to get varying colors using the current texture or use a different image texture.

I'm not sure what the problem with your download from videographics.info was. What were you trying to download?

Thanks for that color information.

I was trying to download the falling album from this page. http://www.videographics.info/joomla/in ... elect&id=3
I know that I could have downloaded this file as a video which is presumably just to allow you to see what the final results will look like. What I though I was going to get in the zipped download was a file that contained the various objects that made up the project & the time line information which should allow you to play it.

I had expected the zipped file to reveale a .C3D file not a .php file.
Thanks in advance

Paul G,

I'm not sure what you did to get a .php file from the FallingAlbum download page. I just downloaded it and received a .zip file. I clicked on the Download link and then clicked 'Save' when prompted. What browser are you using?

I'm using Firefox 2. I have since found out that .PHP extension is from a MS Picture it file. Just in case my file associations were all screwed up I altered this extension to .C3D then clicked on it to open it & C3DPS opened but said that this was either a corrupted file or not a .C3D file. This is most puzzling.
Thanks in advance

I've have just tried downloading the file yet again. As soon as I click the file to download it my download manager program, 'Download Express' which I have used without a problem for years asks if I wish to download this file & it displays it with .PHP extension not a .zip
Thanks in advance

PHP is a web language. You are not supposed to be getting that..

Look in the address bar on your browser right now. See all the references to PHP?

I have Firefox on my machine at work. I will try it from there later on today and report back. I've recently made changes to the web-site (videographics.info) so I'm concerned that this might be a problem related to that.

I'm not familiar with Download Express.

FWIW, I tried downloading the same file using FireFox, and had no problems. I think the OP has the settings in FF messed up. When FF sees files like Zip it should download them, and anything with a PHP extension is by default in web browsers recognized as a webpage, and should try to open/display it.

Hi Ron,

I have to agree. I just downloaded it with FireFox and didn't have a problem either.

Thanks,

Since you both suggested that Firefox might be getting wrong information I went & checked out a couple of plug ins that I had loaded. I unplugged Download Helper, then I tried downloading again but this time without using 'Download Express' but just told it to save instead. This time it said that it was a zipped file. So it seems that the mystery has been solved. Thanks for the help. Can't help but wonder that the file I had downloaded really was since it was about the same size as the zip file.

Is there anywhere else that has these presets available for download?
Thanks in advance

I don't use anything other then what FF provides. It's suppose to support download resuming.

Some do use GetRight. It's not free but does a real good job at maintaining the download data-stream once it has started. It's real good for downloading large files.

Now that I have successfully downloaded the zip file for that particular file & a few other different ones I'm not sure just where to install them. I can click on the falling album for instance & I have quite a few different sub files, some jpegs plus a .ufo file,a ufo file, uez file . If I click to open the spinning globe all I get is a C3D file. Where do these all go?
Thanks in advance

There should be a readme.txt file in the fallingalbum.zip that tells you more about its contents.

The globeintro.zip just contains a C3DPS project file that you can modify as you wish.
