DVD Cams record with AC3(Dolby Digital) sound which is pretty much standard for DVD. For VS8 you need the AC3 plug in (purchased seperately) or you can upgrade to the new version which includes AC3 support.

I guess I misunderstood the front cover of the Videostudio 8 box, which states
“Capture from all camcorders”

Thanks for the help.

DVD cams are the only ones that use AC3 audio because it has a small file size.

If it makes you feel any better most buy it to convert LPCM to AC3 because that is the preffered audio format. It works in all standalone DVD players and takes up less space. You can look over at www.videhelp.com in the tools section for something to convert the audio to LPCM which VS will accept. LPCM is the other standard format that will play in all DVD players but it's uncompressed and takes up a lot of space.

Thanks for all the info.

In the end I downloaded the update and it works fine and just as a bonus I don’t have to look at that Cheshire cat grin.
