Vstudio V10+ with service pack 1. Windows XP. Dell Dimension XPS 2 cpu system with 2G of RAM.
Visual Studio has been working fine but now when I create a disc, it hangs on the screen that has the remote control on it (Preview screen). I read the FAQs and created a MPG file, and then went back and created a new project and dropped in the MPG file but I get the hang in the same place. The only thing that has changed in the past two weeks (I have gone back and tried to burn a DVD off the last good project I had) was I installed Kapersky antivirus, so I disabled it and I still get the lockup. There is constant disk IO, but both CPUs are less than 2%. Windows XP task manager is unable to kill the Visual Studio processes, so it takes a hard reboot to get the machine back up
I am considering reinstalling, but am concerned I will lose work on the two projects I was working on which is over 10 hours of work. Do I just have to backup the VSP files and the source AVIs and JPGs, is there anything else to backup?
Ideas?

If it is hanging at the preview/remote control stage of the burning process, very likely you will need to update your DirectX. I suspect the problem in VS is caused by a recent Windows update. So go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download and install the November 2007 patch which is still the latest, I think. If there is a more recent update, then use that.
Note that it will not change the actual version number of your DirectX from 9.0c but it will definitely add some extra features and functionality. And it seems to correct the problem around the preview/remote control stage.

Workaround
I had the blank DVD in the read only DVD drive, when I put the disc in the correct DVD RW drive, it did not lock. I dont know why its crashing, but at least I can get these two projects done.
