Can't Import Video from DVD Error ID 0x800408fe(2302)

Post by johnrr6 »

I have home movies on VHS tapes that I am copying to a DVD for Storage

Zenith XB413 VCR/DVD Recorder

Want to also take the DVDs and import the video into VideoStudio 11 Plus so I can turn them into movies I can store on my brand new HP MediaSmart EX 470 Windows Home Server (a pretty nifty device).

Anyway----when I try to improt the folder into VS off the newly created DVD (which has been finalized)...

I keep getting this error: "Not a Valid DVD Volume, Report ID 0x800408fe(2302)"

I have tried ripping the DVD with another DVD ripper and that works fine (Xilisoft DVD Ripper Standard)

But I'd really like to have videoStudio do this as the other way is just extra steps.....

How can I fix this in VideoStudio???

What about copying the video from an UNFINALIZED DVD---then fianlizing the Disk later????

Thanks for any help.

John

Copy onto hard drive

Post by 2Dogs »

From a brief look at your "system" properties, it's clear that your pc is marginal! Oh, wait a minute, I was looking at my own system...

What is the format of the DVD from your Zenith? I would expect it to be DVD-VR, which VS should be able to cope with. I've successfully imported video from DVD's, on both +R and -R media, recorded with a Liteon DVD recorder.

You might try to copy the files from the DVD onto a folder on your hard drive and see if VS can then import it from there.

If you are not able to copy the content onto your hard drive, it might indicate a read problem. The content you describe shouldn't have any DRM protection of course, but the ripping program to which you refer quite likely can rip protected content - which of course, VS can not.

Edit: debug error. Upon reloading message as been submitted x3

2Dogs...And now there is one. The posting error is being caused by some unexplained slowdown in the Board. It has been going on for several days. We have reported it and Steve Jones has put a new sticky at the top of the Board warning about it. It usually occurs when you actually post a reply to someone and it takes simply ages for it to appear. This makes the user (you, in this case) think the Submit button hasn't worked. So he presses it again ... and again, in your case. Result: 3 posts. I have removed the other two...

Test Results

Post by johnrr6 »

I tried using an "Unfinalized" DVD...

The computer sees nothing but a blank disk

I updated my DVD Firmware and rebooted----still no-go

I copied the TS_video folder from the disck to my C: Drive andtried to get VS 11+ to import it

And-----SUCCESS!!!

Imports just fine form the hard drive so that will at least "quick fix" this issue.

Thank you for the suggestion!!!

Glad to hear it worked from the hard drive folders.

I've been having my own problems working with imported DVD footage today - so you might find it useful to rename the mpg file that VS creates from the imported DVD files with a shorter, regular file name.

On my pc's, the long name appeared to be the cause of Smart Render not working.

I didn't know you could import from a finalized dvd. Quick question, what format does it import it as? Mpeg? Thanks...

It has to be finalised and as dvds are made up of vob files, this is what you import.

Still getting the error...

Post by digitech »

I have the VOB files in a VIDEO_TS folder on my Hard Drive and am still gettng the Report ID: 0x800408fe(2302) error when trying to import.

I have just installed VS11.5 plus and this is my first project.

I have 5 VOB files only in the folder (ie: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB etc..).

The files play perfectly in Power DVD (and other) players.

Please help.

How are you importing? VS will not allow importing VOB files using the Insert Video (unless you're using VS10+) . You need to use the Insert DVD/DVD-VR..." command. Then in the Select DVD Title window use the Import DVD Folder.

I have received that error and the fix was a reinstall, but first go to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems and rename or delete the DVD folder. Then reinstall the program. It will recreate that folder and all it's contents. After that you should be able to import DVD folders, or from a DVD.

There's something in that DVD folder that gets corrupted. I haven't managed to find what particular file it may be though.
