Well... it's very likely you are applying a transition between two clips amongst many others on the timeline during the middle of a sound track.
Adding a transition will shorten the clip...everything after that will need to move in slightly.
I usually find it's the sound (music) track that needs to be turned off ripple editing but the genral lesson here is:
to finalise all editing and transitions BEFORE turning on ripple editing.

hehe true.... but but...Ken Berry wrote:But Clevo, if you do everything first, and finish your editing, then you don't need ripple editing...!
what I meant was to have all the transitions done, then link up audio/overlays with ripple editing on.
I'm not sure how other NLE's handle ripple editing. But with VS you always get to that stage towards the end of working on a project where the tweaks don't work with everthing turned on in Ripple editing.
Something always have to give and I find that the minimum hassle is turning ripple editing off the music track only works most of the time.

Kenneth,
Can you provide more information? I've tried to replicate this, and so far can not. I've loaded up the time-lines with video, audio, titles and images. When I had several on the time-lines, I then envoked ripple editing. Next I inserted a couple of images using the durations you specified (7 and 11 secs). I then inserted a transition between them. The images, titles, and audio all moved over and the transition was allowed to be inserted as is.
I tried several possibilities, such as different transitions, different durations for the transitions, but it would not refuse it. I don't know which transition you're trying to insert, and the durations, which may have an affect on this.
