Cannot add images
I have just received a cd of images from a mate of mine. He has asked me to put a bit of a clip together. I have tried to import these images into the library for me to work with and I receive the following error message. "These files cannot be added to this project. These files may be of unknown file format, the computer does not have enough memory, or the file is copyright protected". I can see the images - what can I look at - as I do have enough memory. They are tiff format.

Are you trying to insert them directly off the CD? If so anything on CDs and DVDs have the attributes set to Read Only. VS maybe interpreting that as a copyright, ie; it can not write to the image.
When you insert anything into VS, you're not actually inserting the original. VS's project file, just produces a link to where that source is located.
For example if you have a CD with images that you can successfully insert into VS, try inserting them into a project. Once inserted, save and close the project. Now remove the CD from the tray. Re-open the project, and it's going to ask you to re-link to the images.
Copy anything on a CD or DVD to your HDD before inserting into VS. That way the links should remain intact, as long as you do not move the files. I think that WinXP may also automatically remove the Read Only attribute when they are copied to your HDD.
VS does accept TIFF files. I just tried with several that I have, with out problems. However TIFF files are very, very large, but according to your system specs, your PC should manage well.

vidoman, Thanks for the prompt and detailed response. I have copied them to disc and they have no read only attribute on them . I just used MovieMaker to see if it would complain and it chugged along without any issues at all. I may re-boot and check.

I rebooted, checked my attributes again and the same thing happened. Will not allow me to import them. These images are quite high quality. I am wondering if they are copyright protected and how can I tell. How come MovieMaker did not complain.? Additionally - I also used Nero - Slideshow - and it also allowed me to import them. The filesize of the images are all 64Mb each - and a total of 33 files are being used.

Just went through this the day before. The problem is, the file names are too long. Rename them so that the first name (before the period) is not longer than 8 characters.
Videoman : same error message when I was trying to import the frames
EDIT: Just tried couple experiments, and was able to load names bigger than 8 characters.

Again, I say, same EXACT error message when I was trying to add a "frame". The ONLY similarity was, I was working with an orginal .jpg image, converted to .png, after cutting out a frame area, using PI12.vidoman wrote:I don't know why VS was baulking at those TIFF files. The only problems I could find searching the forums, were related to PI. It did have some issues with TIFF files.
(similar was it was a .jpg)
And to boot, this error from VS10+.
Never seen that error before..
Hey guys, Now my issue has gone to the quality of the image. When I import on to the VS11 canvas and have it in preview mode - the image looks as good as the original (sharp and detailed) - when you play the image - remember these are not videos - but simply tiff files - the quality degrades and has a blur accross it - not sharp at all. Any explanations or recommendations?

That is because of compression. Jpeg and such is a "lossy" file format. The more you edit the worse the image gets. You "lose" ones and zeros as you edit it.konmanos wrote:Hey guys, Now my issue has gone to the quality of the image. Still, there is no reason why you should not be able to "add" the orginals to your library. I am having somewhat the same problem, different area of the software, but, it is still a problem, which needs a resolution.
I am able to add images more than the quality yours or somewaht less the same, but, some images will not load. Very frigging weird.
Try this, as an expirement, for me.. VS has the "Wizzard". Which by-passes adding clips to he library. Using your "orginal" pics, try making a vid this way. When you choose the "wizzard" way, you will get the "standard" Windoze add on dialog. See if that makes a vid or not..
Just add all your pics through that dialog..
maybe turn on the thumbnails..
MrA - yep - I did the wizard way as well. All of the images had a ? on them . Really weird alright as I now suspect that the software is to blame as other programs pick up the images without any issues.
What do they suggest when I import these images in - the sharpness and the quality completely goes out the window - when you play the project/clip. When you have it stopped it is all - perfect.
