I don't use MSP -- and you might be better off posting your problem in that forum -- but I did not think MSP was written in the time of HDV cameras, and so cannot capture in that format... Nor do I think there has been any update for it which will allow it, though I could be wrong on this point...

cgould has been using MSP for a while. He did post in that forum. I think he was just "noting" that it appears the VS11+ install has tampered with his MSP8.

MSP does allow HDV, however not the recent AVCHD h.264..

vidoman,

I did some testing and found that VS11+ has no problem working with my Sony TRV-103 or my Canon HV10 cameras when installed on my old laptop running XP. When installed on my desktop running Vista Ultimate 64, or my new laptop running Vista Home Premium, neither of my cameras will work. One other note is that when I had VS10 installed on my Vista 64 desktop (patched for Vista) both of my cameras worked.

In response to Ken's question about the modes I am using for recording on my cameras. I record in Digital-8 on the TRV-103 and HD widescreen on the Canon HV10. I connect both via firewire.

Based upon my observations there is an issue using VS11+ on a Vista PC with the cameras that I own. This is reinforced by the fact that Vegas (trial version), Premier Elements, and Windows Movie Maker all work with my cameras on all my PC's running Vista. Things that make you go hmmm.

Error message 'Cannot start the capture graph'

Post by jcoultas »

After upgrading and installing videostudio 11, when I tried to capture from my sony camcorder I got the error message 'Cannot start the capture graph'
I then reinstalled videostudio 10. I then restarted videostudio 11 and everthing
now works fine in all capture modes. Jeff

First, I need to say I have found most of your posts very helpful during the years. One of the most supportive forums ever, and I really mean it.

Second I need to say that I have the exact same problem that zipdrive has, and I hope I do not get the same "try a new camcorder" (I am in wild parts of China now and unable to find much stuff where I am).
I just finished installing updates and power paks (so I have the 11.5.0157.2 Plus version installed). I get the same problems I used to get before. Seeing zipdrives frustations and that his problems seem similar to mine I decided to post.
PC is windows XP sp2 with all upgrades, and suggestions mentioned before.
Camera: Sony HDR-HC7
Connected by Firewire
-I can capture in VS 10 with no problem (I am not an expert in framerates, mpeg standards and such so I am not sure if it captured in High Def format.).
-I can capture on MovieMaker if I change the option in the camera: i.link conv ( from off to: ON HDV-->DV). However, if this setting is not changed in the camcorder, then MovieMaker does not sees the camera. (Small question here: by changing that setting in the camera, does that mean the capture is not High Def format?) The changing of this setting does not affect VS 11 as it does MM.
-I tried the capture page option in Ulead DVD movie factory 6 and get a huge grey square tittled: "Capture Video" with nothing inside. Nothing happens.
-In VS 11plus, under Tools-->"Select Device Control" I get nothing if the camera is turned off. However I get "HDV 1394 Device Control" after I turn the camera on (alsoI get "HDV supported" inside the square). If I click in options I see SONY.
-If I changed the option in the camera: i.link conv to on (HDV-->DV) then in this Select device control I get "MS 1394 Device Control". In the inside box I get "Supports MSDEV camcorder." However as zipdrive says I do not get anything in the main VS11 Capture window so I can not capture.
-There is obvious interaction between the camera and VS 11, just nothing productive.

The 1394 connector is seen as a network device with tcpip on. Is there any setting in the Firewire connector that may need to be turned on or off?
Are any windows Services needed to allow the protocol to work? For example, Univ Plug and Play Host...

Appart from that, I need to say that I wish I could capture with the same program I am using to edit with: VS11.

I have tried most everything suggested in this post. I am open to suggestions.
Thanks, Klon25

:D to jcoultas..
Thanks for your post re 'cannot start captur graph' VS11+
I also had this problem and reinstalled VS10+ and now everything works fine.
It recognizes my sony HDR-HC3E in both DV and HDV and captures OK.
Can anyone explain why this happens ?
What would we do without this forum and everyone that takes their time and expertise to help us sort our problems out. :D

Ok, been back in the states for a while on a project and just got home and back to the same problem that started this thread a while back.

On my desktop system that I need to edit on am still having the same install error (AV SDK error) that the hotfix will not fix in VS11+. Have uninstalled all and followed up with a manual cleansing of all temp folders, hidden areas and the registery. Can't get past the AV SDK install error.

Moving forward... I open VS11.5+ and am having the same capture problems... VS will not load the capture driver or capture module. Within VS all capture options are dimmed and not available. Within the movie wizard the correct device is setup but when I select capture I get a cannot load capture module error.

Now here is the catch. Have used both a sony TRV-900 mini-DV camera and a sony HDR-HC 3 in both SD and HD and I get the same error. Have tried a totaly seperate firewire port and cables and same error. This is where it gets funny.... I can capture using Vegas video and windows movie maker.

The problem is definatley VS11.5+ and software/driver/module related and I need a fix to it fast. Tried this by starting this thread a while back and went thru Corel tech support and got nothing that helped so here I am revisiting the same problem.

One other note... I used the same install files on my XP laptop and VS works fine so I know it's not a corrupt file thingy.

Any guesses out there?!?
