trouble "marking" preview range

Post by bvideo »

On the "edit" pane, there are indicators for project duration and preview range. It looks as though the preview range indicators should be controls. That is, the left and right arrows have tooltips that say "preview range mark-in" or "-out". Clicking on those doesn't do anything. I can drag the triangles under the preview window, but precision is lacking there.

(VS 11.5.0157.2 Plus. DirectX downloaded after November)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill B.

You advance the preview of your time line to the exact frame you want the preview range to start, of course you have to zoom in to frame level for that, and click on "In". Then you advance your time line to the area where you want your preview range to stop, zoom in again, go to the exact frame you want to stop at and click on "Out".

You can't get more accurate than that.

It works if you click on the 'brackets' to the right of the triangles next to the scissors above the time code

It would lead you to believe that they are a means to adjust the preview range doesn't it.. However it justs displays the precise time code where the mark-in/out points are positioned on the time-line.

Reason why???? Because the programmers wanted to confuse us? To provide something that would cause a customer to call in using the premium support service? :o

It does display the timecode when clicking on the mark-in/out brackets, however I think what Bill is asking about are the spin box arrows on the right side of them. They never become active, and are cosmetic.

Aha! That's what I missed! It makes (software developer) sense that the triangles and brackets of the preview window for the project control "preview range" as they control trim for the clip. It was indeed the "tooltip" and the spin-control-looking preview range display that confused me.
Thanks, Brian & Ron & Heinz.
