- Besides the obvious physical media, are there any advantages to purchasing the boxed version of the software vs the download?
Are the hot fixes and updates incorporated into VideoStudio 11 Plus now?
If not, do the hot fixes and updates need to be installed in date order?
Is there a way to see the hot fixes and updates in the program after installation?

VideoStudio 11 Plus pre-purchase questions...
I found out about VideoStudio 11 Plus while researching the Canon HG10. After finding out more about this product online, I have decided not to wait until I buy the camcorder to purchase VideoStudio 11 Plus. Besides, I might wait until May to buy a new camcorder when Canon's new flash-based line arrives. That would give me time to get up to speed with VideoStudio 11 Plus. On to my questions:

1. The main advantage lies in the fact that the boxed edition includes a Repair function. If something goes wrong, you can repair the current installation. With the download version, you have to do a full uninstall and reinstall. Apart from that, Corel has mucked a lot of people around by only sending them one download when they buy. In reality, the package consists of three links, so if you go that way, make sure you get all three from Corel. The first two are absolutely required for a full install. The third just contains a couple of bunus programs.
2. Not as far as any of us are aware. I am not sure if there is a disc edition of Version 11.5, but if there is, that should contain both the 6 November patch for VS11, as well as the Hot Pack since it is really the latter which upgrades VS11+ to VS11.5. You mention the Hot Fix. *Read its installation notes*. Do NOT install it unless the described condition occurs during your initial installation of VS11.
3. Otherwise, yes, if you buy VS11/11+, you then download and install first the 6 November patch, then the 8 November Hot Pack.
4. Only through the version number ('Help > About VS') which will be 11.5.0157.2 if both the patch and Hot Pack are applied. And the latter will install some new lines in various menus etc. Otherwise the interface remains the same.

Use System Restore
I would strongly suggest that you enable windows System Restore on your pc prior to loading VS11, or the VS11 30 day trial, and make a new restore point. That should simplify recovery from installation problems.
Although I generally have System Restore disabled on all my pc's, since it does consume some resources and I've always had a minimalist approach, I do sometimes enable it in this way before loading major new software.

My System Restore is enabled. I will create a manual restore point before installing VS11.2Dogs wrote:I would strongly suggest that you enable windows System Restore on your pc prior to loading VS11, or the VS11 30 day trial, and make a new restore point. I just updated my PC related info. Am I worthy?
Re: Use System Restore
For updating your info alone, yes!:lol:dspenc1 wrote:I just updated my PC related info. Am I worthy?
Since your pc takes DDR2, you might consider getting another Gig of RAM as it's so cheap at the moment!

Re: Use System Restore
I was actually going to get another 2 GB since it comes with free S/H from Crucial. The additional cost over 1 GB is nominal. Once I buy the HG10 or the HF10 camcorder, I will be editing AVCHD files, which is why I am buying more RAM.2Dogs wrote:For updating your info alone, yes!:lol:dspenc1 wrote:I just updated my PC related info.
