When I try to import, I get a "file format mismatch" error. I'd like to convert the mp4 file to DVD. The file will play in WMP.
Thanks
Can VS11+ import an x264 .mp4 file?

Don't think VS supports x264
I get the same error message as you.
I do some x264 encoding, using other software, on one of my pc's - but I have yet to find a way of getting Video Studio to be able to either play the x264 encoded video, never mind encode with the x264 codec. It's a real shame, since I feel that x264 is as good as it gets at the moment!
Video Studio can use Xvid, however - you can access the full range of encoding tweaks, and even use an unrestricted profile that will allow you to encode custom resolutions. It's an H.264 codec, but output cannot use AAC audio, so it's still not up to x264. Unfortunately, that won't help you import your x264 clips.
Since it does work with Xvid, however, I am hopeful that x264 support may one day be added!
