jerky B clip with crossfade on clip with basic motion filter

Post by skorson »

All,

I'm using MSP8SP1. I have two clips on the timeline A and B. The B clip has a simple motion path applied (a re-size and re-position only for the duration of the fade. Think zooming/re-centering on an oversize BMP image for example or a picture-in-picture effect. B Clip can be image or video.

The problem is that when I crossfade these clips, I get this strange jerkiness. I don't think its a frame ordering (could be wrong) but tried various suggestions to re-set with no luck. When it shifts, it shifts and stays shifted the duration of the crossfade (would a lower/upper frame issue do this? or would it eventually resolve itself?) All video sources are from my same GL2, captured with the same MSP8 capture. The sources for B can be image (BMP or JPG) or video, same issue.

The second (B) clip takes a dramatic shift, typically to the right, sometimes up and down. Sometimes it seems like the aspect ratio of the B clip changes for the duration of the crossfade, then changes back once the crossfade is complete.

This doesn't always show in the preview window - but does sometimes. When the problem exists, it always shows up when creating an output video - its there wheter its an AVI, MPG etc. Not all my crossfades with motion do this, but many/most do.

You can see a less obvious example of the issue here (its my only clip online: http://lenkorproducts.com/video.php it happens about 30s into the clip, after the first fade to black and music starts...)

Anyone experience this issue?

I have had success by saving the clip with the motion applied as an AVI, then replacing the clip with this pre-motioned clip and crossfade. This works.

I have this problem whether my project settings are AVI or MPG. I appreciate any assistance (I know this is all volunteer), and am mostly wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If you need further information, I will be happy to supply. I can make other examples, but don't have them online yet.

Regards,
Steve

yes this has happened to me as well. I used the method you described already. And yes, it is very annoying.

Haven't seen this. I did put on my thinking cap and wondered whether, as it doesn't happen with a re-rendered clip, it may be due to conflict in the temp files and Smart Render. I suggest, the next time you see it happen, you try deleting all your temp files and see whether that does it!

Moderators would know better than to post the same message n times in different threads. :)
