I'm totally new and inexperienced at this. I've read all the FAQ's I can find etc. but still have this weird blurry picture in capture mode when trying to capture sentimentally valuable video from analogue camcorder. I bought this device EasyCAP capture usb 2.0 video adapter with audio from Amazon and it came with ULead VideoStudio8.0. I've tried changing every possible setting in the options with no success. Can anyone help?!
First it's recommended to not capture using USB. When you're capturing video, it is being done in real time. Thus the method used, must be able to sustain the rate the data is being transfered/captured. USB 2, being a newer bus, is still not quite fast enough, then on top of that, other USB devices connected to your PC may decide they need to use some or all of the bus. USB does not determine priority, so these other devices can steal the resources while capturing, resulting in problems such as dropped frames, or complete failure to capture.
Ok since you have managed to capture, but are getting blurry and green results, there are other issues too..
By blurry do you mean "out of focus" video, or blocky, what's commonly called pixelated ? Is this just occurring when previewing in the Preview pane of VS? This could be due to the capture format. What capture settings are you using, and what is available in your version of VS8? Also note that the Preview within VS does not represent the quality at which the video will be in the end. Most of the time the quality is not good, and the video jumps or stutters. This is normal, VS must throw all your editing, clips on overlay tracks, audio, titles, ect., together "on-the-fly". This takes very powerful computer to do this.
The green color is an issue I've never came across. This might be due to using NTSC when you should be using PAL, or vice-versa, however should not make any difference on your PC, as PCs are universal, and not bound to the TV regions. The only other thing that comes to mind is a "night-shot" recording. Those always appear with the greenish tint. Check to make sure the video was not recorded using a not shot mode.
With your capture device was VS8 the only software package included? Sometimes it may be better to capture with the specific capture software provided with a device. Then use the editing application (VS8) to edit the video.
Lastly I will add that VS8, which is now considered a phased-out version was considered by many to be very buggy. There were several patches released. However those only install to the full version and not to SE (special edition, or what we call Simple ) editions. They are watered-down, and often tweaked by the hardware manufacturer that bundles them, to work with their hardware.
Does your tape play ok with a tape player? Do you have color issues there too? VHS tape will lose signal strength over time, affecting color reproduction and tracking.
