If you are indeed using unadorned VS11/11+ and have not applied any patches, then there is a recognised bug in VS which will not capture analogue material (which is of course the case with tape on a VCR). This was due to the capture plug-in having been changed in VS11.

Apply the 6 November patch available on the Ulead website under Downloads which corrects this problem, among a number of others.

I possibly jumped the gun a bit there since that bug existed only if you were trying to capture in DV format. But you never actually told us the format you were trying to capture in or whether any other devices were involved.

To capture from a VCR, you have to have a capture card in the computer or some other capture device between the VCR and the computer. What are you actually plugging the USB cable into...

You still have not provided the essential information of whether you have a capture card or device... Without such a device, Video Studio cannot 'see' what you are trying to capture from...

I assume, then, that you have the VCR connected via the SCART/USB cable to the Belkin and the Belkin via USB cable to the computer? Grateful confirmation.

Have you tried connecting the VCR to the Belkin using the VCR's RCA plus (if it has them), rather than its SCART connection?

ok, the plot thickens.

Have been in contact with corel and they are looking into it for me.

I restored the computer to factory condition over the weekend and installed videostudio again and have the same problems. With the usb capture device plugged in the following happens.

If i disable my built in webcam videostudio does not crash, it goes a step further and comes up with an error message....

Failed to initialise the video capture plug in. Another program may be using it or the file has been moved.

Open driver failed.
Cannot create the video capture filter.

Does this help you guys with my situation at all,

Thank you for your help so far and in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you'll find that the Belkin High Speed USB 2.0 DVD Creator will only work properly with the copy of VS 6 SE DVD which comes bundled with the device. I've had one for about 3 years and I have never been able to make it work properly with VS 8,9, or 10+.

The only way I have found to make it work is to use VS6 for capturing from the VCR, then use something more advanced for the editing and authoring phases.

peace.

That is usually the case if your hardware came with software. The software is "tweaked" to only work with your hardware. So if that's the case simply capture with the included software, then import those clips into VS11 for editing.

The only problem with that in Alvin's case is that VS6SE will not work with Vista, which is what he has as his OS. And for any other capture device, the software that comes with it also has to be rated to work with Vista.

As I have advised in another thread today, the user will have to contact the hardware manufacturer to see what their current solution is. Or else buy more hardware with software which is Vista rated. Or use a mini DV camcorder, if they have one, as a passthrough device...

I'm having a similar issue here.

I'm running Vista Home Premium with a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 (Model 78xxx, Combo ATSC/QAM) card.

With VideoStudio 10.0.0110.0, capture works just fine (tuner and composite). When I installed VS 11.0.0157.0 Plus (Trial), I get the "Unable to switch to Capture Mode. Check if your video capture driver is working properly. [15023:4:2]" message. I went back and v10 still works just fine. Obviously, I don't want both versions hogging up my system.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Yes, I made sure my DirectX End User was the latest. I just downloaded it from Microsoft today.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also (and I'm sure this is a silly question), does the limited number of design templates improve when I buy the full version?

Thanks!
