Hi,
I just installed Ulead Video Editor 11 on a computer running Win XP Pro, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core, 3GB of DDR2 Ram all on an Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard.
When I connect my Panasonic SDR-H18 HDD Camcorder by USB, it takes an extremely long time to import anything. I literally have enough time to go make a sandwich and have lunch...lol. Does anyone have any input on this? Oh, and the video imported is standard definition. Thanks for any help
Import takes very long time

Welcome to the forums,
Without looking up your camcorder, I'm guessing that it records to MPEG2 format, correct? (I couldn't wait, I looked it up..
). Since it does, what you need to do is, transfer those files to your PC via Windows Explorer, not try to capture.
So with your camcorder connected via the USB, open Windows Explorer. You should see your camcorder listed, similar to another HDD. Using this method simply copy them or move them from the camcorder to your PC, just like moving files around on your PC.
Once you have the video clips on your PC, then open VS, select Insert Video, navigate to where you copied/moved the video files, and bam.. there inserted..
Should take you less time to do this, than it does for me to transfer using DV..
That's your problem, we recommend to never, ever capture video using USB. It's not fast enough to maintain a constant flow of data. It's a shame (more of a sham) that manufacturers included USB cables with their camcorders and not Firewire (IEEE-1394, Sony's i-Link).When I connect my Panasonic SDR-H18 HDD Camcorder by USB

Um, Ron, it's a hard disk camera, and those never come with a firewire port. USB is the only option (apart from S-Video out), but as far as I am aware, it is USB 2.0 and is fast enough to transfer video -- that's what it's there for, after all. And it does use the mpeg-2 format.
That being said, I have no idea why it would be taking ages to import from it -- though I confess I have no idea of normal import times from such cameras. Maybe someone who actually has one can comment.
But it would be useful to have an idea how the poster went about importing from the camera -- step by step, please.

I just plugged in my camera, then brought up the capture wizard and selected my camera HDD. then it just shows a green progress bar in the middle of the screen that fills up over and over....and then eventually it shows the content on the camera. I've selected a single jpeg from the camera and it took many minutes for it to load.
I tried just copying the content from the camera onto my local HDD and that went much smoother. And I was able to load it into ULEAD with no problems. So i'll just do it like that from now on. Thanks for the help.
