40 min of 1 hr video gone

I am importing a 1hr video from a panasonic Mini VD camcorder using movie creator 6. When the import is done I can rewind and play the entire clip, but when I hit the next button to continue on to the editing phase, I loose all but about the last 10 Min. I have a DVD burner and have selected it as the default burner. What is happening to the lost 40 min of video? This is a Dell D620 laptop with 1gb of Mem, 60 GB HDD and 1ghz processor. This is my 1st attempt with a Corel product so I may just be missing a step. Ed
