Top of picture cut off when played on TV

Post by John Ruscigno »

I created a Slideshow DVD, with Video Studio 11, and when I play it on my TV the descriptions of the individual pix are partially cut off. When I preview the video clip, before burning, it looks fine. I created the slideshow and added descriptions using Ulead Photo Explorer 8.5. I opened the slideshow in Ulead CD and DVD Picture Show 4 and saved it as a Video File. I play the video file on my computer and it looks good. I open a project in Video Studio 11 and load the video file. I start to Create a Disk and select a simple menu. I preview the project and it looks fine. I burn the DVD, play it on my TV and the top of the descriptions a cut off. I have tried to tweek every setting I can find in Video Studio 11 and get the same results every time. What am I missing?

I sometimes use the distort clip with the keep aspect ratio set. This way I can move important parts of an image into view. Now I know to take a larger area with my digital camera and trim later.
Unfortunately I have no idea how this would view on the new LCD TV's. I suspect there is less loss, because none of the screen is hidden.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with a new TV about what their "Safe Area" is.

You must take into account not just your own TV but those that either you or your friends might use in the future. Perhaps you decide to watch it on a portable TV in the bedroom, or your old granny wants to watch it on her old CTV (cathode ray tube) television. It is better to take the TV safe area into account even if your flat screen TV can display the entire video just as it appears on your computer monitor.
