File Format Mismatch

Post by deonholt »

Hi there.

VS 11+

I have successfully created 5 different projects which I have saved as *.VSP files which will be the different chapters of my 1st DVD created with VS.

My idea was to start a new project, which will be the final DVD, and add these files to a new library and them add them one after the other on the time line proceeding from there to add chapters and finish it off.

But, and I know it most likely has to give me this error, I het this error when trying to add my 5 different projects into the library:
"File format mismatch"

What am I doing wrong?

Regards,
Deon

Your trying to save Project to a Library which does not store certain parts in your project. For example;

If you have anything but video clips in your project, you will get that error when trying to import that project into a Library. The Libraries are meant to hold thumbnails of specific format types, video, images, audio, and titles. So naturally in a project you may have video clips, some images, and some text (titles). VS can not put that in a Library. It does not have a Projects Library.

Thanx Ron, for the quick reply.

What do I need to do with my projects files then?

For a test I have created a video file of the shortest one. Do I need to do this with all 5 and then start a new project with them where I add the chapters, etc?

Thanx in advance.

Since VS does not provide a Library for projects, the best that we can do is when working on a project select a place on your PC to save all projects that may be needed in the "overall" project, and save them to that folder.

I'm getting a sense that you're going to attempt a taboo procedure though  and that is going straight to the burn module (Share>Create Disc) before creating individual video files from your project(s). This can be done, however do not be surprised if VS falls over at some point while trying to burn your DVD.

A Recommended Workflow has been developed to help guide you through the mine-field of video editing, as it pertains to Ulead's VideoStudio Programs. They can be viewed here:
Recommened WorkFlow for VideoStudio

You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial.

In short, yes. Basically, that is the Recommended Workflow that Ron speaks of.

Thanx for the replies.

At the moment I did not really have any preferred direction or the taboo one.

I did work from the suggested work flow which I got from here which is the picture.

But, it does not tell me what file formats to work in and if I can use different projects as different chapters for the eventually created DVD.

I captured all the different clips from my Sony HandyCam in MPEG-2 format. I used the Wizard with the different templates to create from all the clips, 5 individual projects.

I want to have a DVD with five different chapters on one menu. (I have already downloaded and unzipped the 12 chapter menu which I copied to the different template locations.)

I have made video files from each of these projects.

Thanx for your help.

I think you are also having a common misunderstanding about what a chapter is. I think what you are referring to is actually a title. Each individual project would be a title. From within that title(s) you could jump to various chapter points.

For example, I make a yearly family video. I break down each event (vacation, school event, sporting event, etc.) separately as its own title. Each title will have its own thumbnail on the DVD menu.

Exactly. :!:

Don't know all the correct terms and phrases yet but I knew someone will understand me ... sort of.

So do you think I am on the right track? I now have 5 rendered video files which must make the 5 titles on my DVD.

I have downloaded this:
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 4b7198aaba

to try and have only one page for my 5 titles, but now VS does not want to load/run. Nothing happens, no errors, nothing when I click on the button to open VS? :?:

Thanx again.

First, did you store that template exactly where Steve said to store it? As you will have seen, I initially had trouble (not no freezing) seeing when I did not follow his instructions exactly.

Next -- and with apologies to Steve -- there are a variety of other templates, both text and thumbnail varieties, which will easily fit five to nine titles (or chapters) on the one page. There is no need to stick just to Steve's, in other words...

Hi Ken,

no, at first not but then created a Custom folder and put it in there.

Everything is working OK now.

But, why is the option to create AVCHD greyed out. Because I am experimenting now, I don't want to burn the DVD now, but rather the folder & accompanying files?

I will check the other templates and thanx for your advise.

Overcoming "file format mismatch"

Post by pinkhouse »

I have just discovered that one CAN save a VS11 project as a .vsp file, and that file CAN then be imported into one's libraries. :D Of course, it will NOT be available as a file that can have its component parts modified (like audio or titles), since it in essence represents a "standalone video" when in the library. It can only be edited again when opened as a project.

But this route is so much easier than creating a Video File via the "Share" tab. How? Well, with the project fully open and with all its bits and pieces in place, just Save As a VideoStudio 10 (NOT 11) file.

Try it - open a New Project - insert media file (video) into a library. It has worked for me four times this afternoon - will it work again tomorrow?

One question for the experts, though, is "does the fact that that one is saving one's work as a Version 10 project file make one iota of difference to the end product "? Certainly, the procedure does not appear at all to impede the process of creating a final DVD-burn. :D
