VS8 Pan & Zoom: Keeping the pan speed constant?

Post by Keith C »

Hi

I have a "vista" type jpg that I want to pan across from left to right. I set the zoom to 200 at the start and end, The problem I have is keeping the pan speed constant so that it moves across the picture smoothly. There is no jerkiness, but the speed of the pan is not constant - the pan speeds up. How can I stop this?

Your help is appreciated.

You have probably placed the middle point for the panning operation someplace that isn't halfway between the start and end points. If you don't need the middle point, I would disable it; otherwise, you will have to be very careful as to where you place it.

Thanks Torsten,

I have not enabled the middle option and still it happens.

Both start & end options are set identically. Do you have any other ideas why this may happen?

Also now you have VS9, are there improvements in the P&Z function? Like larger preview panes, and more accurate key framing?

Hi

It may be just the ability of playback keeping up.

Either switch to high quality playback,
or
Create a video file of the offending pan & zoom clip.

Do you still have the jerky playback.

Hi Trevor.

Yes, even after creating an Mpeg2 video file & burning to disc and testing it on a TV, the wretched pan still speeds up....tho' smoothly. There is no jerkiness.

Hi
I assume you can see the problem in the preview window.

There was a problem a long time back where the pan and zoom was acting strange.
The work round was to make sure you played the entire clip in the pan & zoom window before ticking ok.

Don’t know why, but give it a try.

Humor is sometimes one's only recourse!

I experience precisely the same problem as Keith C. I've wondered about it and done various things with the mid-point, etc., cursed it, laughed at it. But in general I thought it wasn't terrible enough to get burned about. The little speed-up as the end of the pan approaches kept making me think that UVS8 was simply tired of the boring old still shot and wanted to be done with it and move on -- as did I.

On my final product (DVD) the little speed-up is hardly apparent. It may actually be gone -- I'd not thought of it again until reading this thread. Let's hope VS9 doesn't add little flourishes like this!
