VS 11 plus LOCKS UP : Different issue
Hey everyone Happy new year. Im here with another problem. I have just received a new computer. Everything has been upgraded on it. On my old puter I had VS 11 PLus and it ran very decently. Crashed maybe 4 times out of a few hundred using it. So im going into video editing and i decided to upgrade with 2 gig of ram AMD athlon 64X2 Dual Core processor 4400+ 2.31 GHz, 2.00GB of ram, and 200 gig of room, WIn XP PRo... So anyways now i go to install VS again to get it up and running and it crashes the first time I start it. I then load it again and it works AMAZINGLY, and then the next time I get the windows has encountered a problem and has to blah blah, once again the next time its fine, and this continues EVERY TIME. I dont understand. Im pumped to use it but what is the issue , why is it crashing ALL THE TIME, is it the upgrade , you guys are amazing and i know you can help, im just confused. And yes i have installed it and uninstalled it 6 times with no changes. HELP!!!!!!!

Did you get any errors while installing? Is it crashing just upon launching, or have you been able to work for a short time before it crashes?
If it is the later, what specifically are you doing before the crash? What type of video files or you working on?
With your new PC, did you check and update drivers for your video, audio cards? Do you have the Nov '07 DirectX installed?
Any other similar software installed before installing VS11? Sometimes if you install an older version of VS after the most current release, it can cause problems, due to the program over-writing the newer files, with older.
This one may seem like it would not apply, but just recently I've had problems with M$'s DEP, closing or refusing to allow PI open. To Exempt a program from DEP do the following:
1. Right-click on My Computer and Select Properties
2. In the System Properties dialogue that opens click on the Advance Tab.
3. Click on the Settings button for Performance.
4. In the Performance Options, click on the 3rd tab, Data Execution Prevention.
5. Click the radio button for Turn on DEP for all.....
6. Click on the Add button, a window will open that you can navigate to where the executable file for VS, MSP, PI or whatever program you're having problems with, is located. Generally this is found under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\. However you may have it installed to some other location on your system.
7. Once you have found it, click on it to add it to the execeptions list.
Now if DEP was preventing your program from launching that should take care of it.

It crashes right when the program opens. It either does not respond, or gives me 2 secs and then poof either shuts down or says it has to close. There is no problems installing it either, very smooth (everytime). Its not a new or older version, its the same one i have been using for months maybe a year, and then i get a better computer and i cant use it. No i have not updated video or audio, is that a major thing i should do right off the bat?

Brand-spankin new??Jaytolo wrote:Also why should i have to update, EVERYTHING is brand spankin new in the tower, sorry to post again im just tryin to figure this out. Is it maybe a bad part for the puter, like memory or something? Just throwin ideas around
The first thing that I do after purchasing a new PC is start updating, especially video and audio drivers. DirectX is not updated that often, however due to the release of Vista, they like everyone else, are playing catch-up. I've updated my Nvidia display drivers twice in the last 6 months.
Don't update them, but then you may want to go to the medicine cabinet and get that bottle of aspirin out. I hear it helps with headaches..

My Nvidia drivers are 2 years old. I'm using the 2nd release after what was on the original Nvidia CD. No Problems. That's an older Nvidia card so new NVidia drivers don't do the card any good. Actually the newer Nvidia drivers perform worse than the original driver. The first thing that I do after purchasing a new PC is start updating, especially video and audio drivers. Same with the audio card, no problems.
DirectX 9.0c must be updated to November 2007 for many video/audio apps to run correctly. I think updating depends on what hardware your using. I've read where the latest ATI drivers cause problems where the previous release was ok.
Maybe remove the memory chips, they are probably running in dual-channel mode. Try using just 1 module to run in single channel mode. If VS crashes then use the other chip. I've had bad memory chips before, not easy to troubleshoot.
I've also installed XP Service Pack 3, everything still runs good.
Auto updates are also off.
On the Vista computer I do perform updates, not automatically, you select which ones to install.

I think this is the link, I downloaded the whole thing.
I did perform a disk mirror on the computer before installing it.
Not Official, Install at your own Risk.
No problems on my end, you can also un-install it.
Vista also has a Service Pack Now. I downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. That is also a pre-release.
