Trial VideoStudio 11+; Really Full Featured?

Post by gpflepsen »

I ask this because I am evaluating VideoStudio 11 Plus for use with my Canon HV20. My needs are for capturing HDV from the HV20, then authoring and burning HD DVD to DVD media.

Is the trial version of VS 11+ really full featured? The info for the product says it is capable of complete HD DVD authoring from HDV capture, but I can't get it to do it. It will not capture in HDV mode, but it will capture in DV mode. I can import 1440x1080 HDV files but I cannot advance to burning them at anything other than 16x9 720x540(?) DVDs. I can try setting the project propertied to HD DVD but I can't get the profile to stick, it defaults back to 16x9 720x540 DVD.

I see that there is an HD DVD/AVC HD pack available for download, but this is not for the trial version of VS 11+. Do I need to buy this software and install the HD functionality pack just to see if this program will suit my needs?

I bought Pinnacle's Studio 11+ and regret that greatly. I do not want to throw away another $100 on a program I can't use.

Thanks for any advise or insight.

Welcome to the forums,

Tell us a little about your system, as there have been problems with Canon related to Toshiba notebook pcs.

Please complete your System Information in your profile. Clicking on this button -->Image will take you to a short tutorial, explaining how to find and complete that information. This way it will always be available, and will save you from retyping it in the future.

Sorry I don't edit HD video, so am not very versed in it. However if you will do a search on the forums, using keywords (without quotations) "HDV", "AVCHD", and in the author box insert "etech6355", you should get numerous possible solutions. Etech is our "resident expert" on HDV, and has posted several solutions, and ways to properly use VS and DMF6 using the HD formats.

Thanks. I have the profile complete. What makes me think something is missing with the VS 11+ trial version is that the MovieFactory 6+ (trial) can capture HDV. I did some searching around before posting and will do some more searching for the user you mentioned.

You should continue searching under HDV and AVCHD without an author as well, because although etech6355 has authored many threads, he as responded to even more, and they won't show up if you only search for him as the author.

Well, I don't know how or why but I was able to capture HDV from the Canon HV20 with VS11+. VS11+ is very sluggish to recognize (~3 minutes) the HV20 in HDV mode. HDVsplit, the pinnacle studio 11 I tried and MovieFactory 6 were all almost instant in their recognition of the HDV. Maybe this is an issue to be addressed by an update to VS 11+.

I am still learning VS but I like what I've see so far. It hasn't really shown any bugs except for the HDV recognition.
