I shot my first footage in HD, downconverted into VS11 thru firewire and edited .mpg file. 50 cuts, titles, transitions, etc. later I had done project. I output as .AVI and then cut to spec in Windows Media Encoder.
At some point in the future I will want to utilize the footage in HD. Can I use the same project file somehow? I'm assuming I can't because I have to dump the tape again as straight HD out of the HD-SDI port on the camera but thought I would ask. Thanks for any help understanding.

I'm basing this on a logical guess..
If you are wanting HD video, I would say yes you need to re-capture. The project file, being just a set of instructions, will look at the "thumbnails" properties, checking such things as file size, bitrates, frame-sizes, to see if those are the same ones that were used when the project was created. VS will probably error, finding that they are not the same, and will not re-link.
You could however create a "template" to use. Go to Project Properties (Alt + Enter), press Edit, then set all the properties you need for your HD video project. For example, Bitrate, Frame sizes, ect. Once you have them set, click ok. Now without adding anything to the time-line, Save the project with some name like HD video 1440. Close it, or choose File>New Project.
Now when you want to edit your HD video, once VS has launched, go to File>Open Project, and select the "HD video 1440" or whatever name you gave it. Now your project properties are set for editing. Remember once you have added anything to this project, to choose Save As to preserve the template. Otherwise VS will over-write your template.
Finally for quality, I don't think the WMV file that you saved to will be sufficient quality for creating another "HD" video/DVD.
